Idk i don't think my plants are unhappy in their current environment or unhealthy at all for that to be an issue when feeding

This is how my plants look when my camera isn't smudged and foggy looking. The colors haven't been altered difference in time of day and how strong the light is at that time on my plants during the day.

Kat... If a bug's (weak) stomach juices can do that to a trap, how come the trap digestive juices (strong enough to dissolve human flesh), don't turn the trap black?

Black spot happens ALL the time, to EVERYBODY. Again, unless you've done a controlled test on this that claim is incorrect.I can just imagine a new grower looking at information like that and thinking, "I'd better not feed any swatted flies to my plant" and passing that information along.

But, Miguel's question has been answered, so it's really pointless to continue this "discussion". I hope any newbie who reads the misinformation will read others' posts and get a better understanding of what actually matters in regards to growing VFTs.

I did do a expiriment and that was my outcome.. Maybe sometime I'll post some of my experimental test results on here..but reguardless that was my experience in the matter.

I would also be a bit hesitant about feeding any plant, recently sprung from a Home Despot "death cube," as the author of this thread had described. I rarely see healthy plants in their garden center.

My own plants eat their fair share of everything; and rarely, if ever, do I feed them myself . . .

Perhaps you are drawing the wrong conclusion from your experiment's results? I don't believe all the participants in this thread are making it their goal just to disprove what you say. The purpose of an experiment is to either confirm or disprove a hypothesis. When you have this many people with opposite experiences you must begin to think that you may just have gotten a false positive in your specific tests. Do a quick google search on experimental error and I'm sure you'll find dozens of examples and reasons on how this happens. There are a number of other variables that effect the results, anything from the conditions the plant grows in to pure chance. I think you simply need to start listening to other peoples experiences. A true experiment would likely be done under a number of different conditions and the conclusion would be drawn from the most supporting evidence.

Many members of this community are quite willing to conduct these sorts of "experiments" without using a control, and so the "results" are often cloudy at best, and assumptions are made that are skewed towards opinion, not fact. Hence, many misleading mythologies evolve and are propagated - like this erroneous "3 meals will kill" nonsense.

I don't think you were understanding what i was saying, i never said 3 meals would kill the whole plant, that's not what i meant. We were talking about a weak plant and i was telling the OP that if he fed the trap more then 3 times a week the trap would die off. Most traps die off after about 4 meals anyways. Then i said i read an expiriment where someone fed every trap on the plant and it suffered ...etc...etc..

If feeding yr vft more then 3 times would kill the whole plant then i wouldn't have 32+ individual VFT plants healthy and offsetting as crazy as they are.

I've done my experiments with about 3 to 5 plants of ones I've tested on and ones i didn't and fed while flies unswatted and all the ones i fed the swatted flies to were from the photos i posted. Then i tried the expiriment again with 3 king Henry's i had all the same size roughly and all the same age and had fed them the flies swatted and the others whole ones unswatted and the ones fed the swatted ones now have no traps on the rhizome and have stunted in growth since then. I ended up keeping one of the tested ones and one of the ones i didn't test the others after a month i traded or gave away, the ones given away that had the squished flies are still stunted in growth and are having a hard time producing New traps and petioles according to those who received them.

I was gonna do future experiments but after what i collected i just stored feeding swatted flies to my plants its my choice others can do a test if they'd like for them selves or just feed them how they want to and ignore me its their choice information from others are either taken or refused. Their doesn't have to be a right or a wrong.

Plus i was only doing the experiments to help my plants and their feeding experiences to improve their health and growth not to claim its a fact and is to be followed by everyone. I was just giving my experience in the matter and sharing it with others like many people do.
