Starman, : (12* C = 54* F) The plant would probably die inside the garage. Your weather is perfect for dormacy, leave it outside barely moist during the winter months. If you leave it in a dark garage then it will try to get light, while in dormacy and slowly die away, unless you trim off all the leaves.
The only times you leave a Dionaea in the Garage is when temps are way below freezing. That puts them into a deep dormacy where photosythysis is no longer needed for the plant to survive.
Sometimes temperatures outside are too cold and a unheated garage wont work either, like here in Michigan. I lost some of my plants because a unheated garage froze all my plants solid and it turned into mush.

Man, I am envious for your types of winters

Hi The 92nd Fish. I had a similar debate if I should do fridge dormancy or not. I decided to do fridge dormancy because I was afraid that if I didnt, my VFTs wouldnt get enough cool temperture, thus having no dormancy and death. I was afraid that anypart of my house would be too warm. Fridge dormancy insures that your plant will go into a deep dormancy and you dont have to worry about giving it light. I think if you do fridge dormancy and uprooting it, it is easier to deal with fungus growth than if you leave your VFT in its pot. If you need help on fridge dormancy, read the articles section, and theres a thread on dormancy which gives you vivid instruction on how to perform fridge dormancy.
