Seedlings + dormancy

Do seedling VFTs that were just planted this summer still need dormancy?

I don't KNOW the answer but in nature the plant will flower in the Spring and the those seeds will germinate soon therafter, right? So when Fall comes they are naturally getting reduced photoperiod and declining temps. Nobody pulls them out of the bog from mid-November 'till mid-February and then plunks back in. Don't first year plants then go through dormancy with the established ones?

Just a thought.

I guess I'll just leave them outside with the rest of my VFTs - thanks!

They need dormancy because they "know" that their first growing season will be short.

I believe you can skip the first year....never tryed it myself though because my parents managed to kill my seedlings.

I've always been told that the plant will suffer no bad effects if you skip dormancy the first year, though you still can if you want to.

I think its only the second year that its really necessary
