Drosera x obovata 'Ivan's Paddle'
Drosera x obovata is a natural hybrid of D. anglica and D. rotundifolia. D. 'Ivan's Paddle' is a man-made cross of these two species. The cross was treated with colchicine and is fertile. Ivan gave me this pot of 'Paddle' at the last LACPS meeting.
The winner will get at least two of the large plants and a few of the pups, my choice. I won't know for sure until I divide the pot after the close of the auction. I'll throw in a few seed capsules which I clipped early to keep the pot pure. Seed offspring are not 'Ivan's Paddle' and should not be labeled as such. True 'Ivan's Paddle' should be propagated vegetatively (cuttings or divisions). Ivan warns that the seed offspring will be feeble and "lame looking".
Grow year round under lights in long fiber sphagnum in standing water. No dormancy required. Feed often. Note: many growers (including myself) have observed that under some conditions these plants will lose the signature paddle shape and grow rounder leaves. The exact conditions are unknown but higher temperatures are a likely suspect.
