Failed P. moctezumae leaf cuttings, but....

A few weeks ago I pulled some basal leaves to see if I could produce more plants. Today I checked the pot and found that they all had withered. I then pulled a few older, outer leaves that were on the decline. Oddly enough, though still attached to the base of the plant, these leaves were forming new plants.

Jim,

I've noticed something similar in the p. moctezumae that you sent me. When a couple of leaves fell off the mother plant, I laid them on the media. While the plants didn't grow at the base, after the leaf withered, new plantlets grew from the tips of the leaves.
