Flowers must be pollinated.

nepenthes gracilis

Hey everyone. I must have pollinated the P.Ionantha flowers right as the whole flower fell of a while ago leaving the ovary behind. Now my question is when do I collect the seed and how will I know when it is ready to be clipped off? Thanks.

OK The seed pods swelled up and I clipped them off. Now what Do I do??? I am in need of some good advice and/or HELP!

Have the pods dried? I would leave until they have dried and cracked. Then the seeds will be fully ripe...

Well I clipped them off the plant since they were so swelled up! I thought they'd burst!

Since they are nicely swelled they should do okay if you let them dry. I just don't know if the germination rate will be the same.

OK Thanks Alot RR. I don't know much about pollination on Pings. So I am glad you helped me out!

Thanks. Nep.G.

i thibnk u shouldha left it on. i left the opne on my ionantha on and it swelled up, turned brown and i got like hecka seeds.

Yeah, I just found that out! I opened them up and they were mush and no seeds. They were just beggining to form! Man I screwed up. But another flower is coming so I'll leave this one on! But how do they dry up even in very high humidity? Won't they just rot off? That is why I clipped mine,I was afraid they would rot.

They shouldn't rot when they are still on the plant. In the wild they are in humidity anyway.
Of course if the seed pod has fertilizer on it and is in warm and very humid conditions...
What is more important than drying is that they ripe.

Well I don't fertilize my CP's like some people do. They weren't made for that purpose anyays! They were evolving over billions of years to adapt to the no nutrient and acidic conditions and to fertilize themselves, by luring suitable fertilizer!! I don't know why anyone would fertilze these plants when they weren't meant for it! Anyways enough of my speech and for the topic now.

Well I have learned my lesson! Leave flowers on! But I have another chance as another flower is coming up. Soo tell me ahead of time what to do cephalotus88! (Zach). You know how to pollinate, wait for seeds, and harvest butterworts flowers! AND you have the exact butter wort as me! P.Ioantha. So tell me what to do please. All the way from step 1. Thanks Alot.
