I've been working on this all winter and I'm amazed nothing died!

I have this pretty large area of rock bed in the front of my house, with some large collector's boulders my dad I picked up some places years ago. I always thought it needed something more than rocks and a single gnarly-growing Texas sage bush, so late last fall/this winter, I have been steadily adding cactus and succulents that I thought would not only improve the appearance of the rock bed, but were also hardy enough to take that north wind during the winter- I am pleased to say that so far it's been a 100% success! Here's a few of my favorites:

My favorite, and oldest Haworthia, the Cooperii, may or may not be a v. Truncata, I really can't tell the difference between them

I have a lot more plants in the bed, will post them all over time. I have some big ones I am till planning out.

Happy Spring all!

That's really great! Can you post a photo of the whole growing area?

Sure! Sorry it took so long, I had to go out of town for a bit. Here's the overall view (kinda-sorta), with some new pics.

This is around the corner on the other side of the sage:

My sage bush needs a lot of help. Getting kind of ugly:

P.S.: no idea why that 2nd picture is sideways, it displays fine on my computer *shrugs*

Looks nice! Kinda limited in outdoor growing succulents for this region, or I'd have a rock garden, too.

Speaking of rock gardens, though not a succulent, have you ever grown Digitalis obscura? Supposedly it does well in arid rock garden type areas. I'm thinking about trying it here in a particularly dry spot.

Very cool, looks great, good work!

That 'Pink Nymph' Mammi opened up! Took a few quick shots of it.

A lot of cacti and such have been blooming like crazy! But I'm only showing ones in my actual rock area for now.

My 'Rainbow Bursts' opened this morning: I have four, and 2 of the plants flowered at once. This one is in the bed though.

Color didn't quite come out right, but you can see how awesome they are! I was stunned, and they even smell nice too, similar to a Crinum lilly! May well be my new favorite.

I think your unknown haworthia in the first set is Haworthia reinwardtii var. brevicula.

Good looking plants. I'm just a tad too much farther north than you to be able to plant out most of my succulents. I'd love to do that, though.

It very well could be. It is starting to branch like a Reinwardtii more and more.

My 'Rose Quartz' is blooming. I always love these vibrant pink/red flowers. Unfortunately, taken in full sun, these pics don't do justice for them.
