Final Limerick IV: Pitcher Perfect

If we die, read our memoirs.
What doesn't kill us will leave scars.
We're stuck in pitchers;
We're belly-itchers.
It's all thanks to Nep's and Sarr's.

The neps have turned black.
Fertilizer, herbicide...
they're the same thing, right?

My beautiful plants,
how tall and vibrant you have grown
these last two minutes.

towards the light is "out."
"out" is where the freedom lies.
So I'll fly towards the -

Come, my worker ants,
Nectar waits in great supply
right over this cliff.

And, just for fun, a total nonsense poem. What rhymes with "aristolochioides?"

There once was a nep called aristolochioides,
whose pitchers were light as the fairest sock of soybeans.
A fly came to play,
but then flew away.
Seethed the plant, "well, I don't really care worth a box of toy fleas.

I'll leave "infundibuliformis," "mapuluensis," and "mentalingajanensis," as challenges for the next person :D

I'll leave "infundibuliformis," "mapuluensis," and "mentalingajanensis," as challenges for the next person :D

There once was an infundibuliformis,
who lived up high on a cornice,
she wished to grow a friend, a mapuluensis.
So she looked up the facts in an appendice,
but wound up with a mentalingajanensis,
who said with a smile, "I'll be your best frien', sis!"

Final Limerick V: The Aphid Empire Strikes Back

Of all my idiosyncratic hatreds.
Worst of all, the prolific aphids.
I don't want you as a tenant,
I don't care if you're born pregnant.
I tell my plants, "Sorry it's not safe, kids."

Final Limerick VI: The Return of the Scale

Did I mention I don't like scale?
What is my quest? I seek the Grail!
Though not so hard to kill,
It give me such a thrill.
The war I wage is fought full-scale.

1:
Not to be confused with boring trefoil
these plants will patiently toil
killing various arthropods,
and rooting in acidic bogs,
as long as there is nitrogen depleted soil.

2:
I ain't got beef with all this photosynthesis,
But I don't wanna be wearin' a prosthesis.
I'll admit a plant that bites
Is really quite a sight,
But next thing ya know they'll have psychokinesis

3:
Take a look inside the Little Shop of Horrors,
But be careful...be like Dora the Explorer,
Cause those plants with big teeth
They'll creep up from beneath
And with their tentacles, grab ahold of your shoulders.

'Said the Sundew to the Spider'

Our traps, to us, are suited
You're mobile, while I'm rooted
We eat the same food
And not to seem rude...
But I hate being looted!

'Replied the Spider to the Sundew'

I steal; despite how you feel,
It works out, it's a fair deal
Because of the glue
You make in your dew
I might end up as your meal

Seems like everyone is done so without further ado, third place goes to "theyellowdart". Nicely done sir!

There once was a Byblis named Lou
Everyone envied his dew
Then one day
To the whole bog's dismay
Lou changed his name to Sue

1st and second place goes to swampdonkey. Expert level!

venus flytraps wake
springtime sun lights the morning
somewhere a fly cries

Haiku:

sarracenia
stood strong as winter approached
resting in silence
thank you

There are so many wonderful people to thank. First, my college lit prof who introduced me to this form of Japanese poetry through the writings of Matsuo Bashō, and who nursed my interest. Of course, everyone on TF for your endless support and patience w/ me and all the other noobs swimming upstream as we learn about these amazing plants. Also a shout out to all the insects that have unwillingly given up their time on our fair planet so that we humans may be entertained. Godspeed and RIP. To those I've failed to recognize, you know who you are..... Lastly, and before I'm kicked offstage, cheers to cp-connection for this fun thread. Thank you!
