Roridula dentata

Ok i was lucky enough to get some roridula dentata seeds from ICPS. i realize you need to let them soak up smoke from a fire or something. I have a outside fire ring which i can use. Now can you plant the seeds in a pot of its soil and stick it above the smoke. should i put the soil near the fire to catch the smoke fumes. should i then plant the seeds. What really makes them need the smoke to sprout. i am guessing it has to do with drought fires in south africa. if you grow these let me know how you sprouted them.

You don't need smoke to germinate dentata. I germinated some in 2003 by sowing during the spring in wet soil. The soil was allowed to dry in the summer and rewet when temperatures dropped in the fall. The seeds germinated(all within the same week).
