What the heck is this?

Question for our tropical fish enthusiasts

It has been suggested to me that this is Black Beard Algae any 2nd opnions and any one know how I should get rid of it?

I had a little bit of a long hair like algae problem a year back I  got a couple of Rose barbs and a flying fox (might not be 100 accurate on those names ) they cleaned that right up. As for this stuff its really slow growing but no one eats it.

Its the black fan like thing as seen growing on the rock in front of the shrimp.

Thanks for any info or tips you can provide,

I believe so.

Try an excel treatment. Dose 2 or 3X the normal (NOT! the initial!) dose for 10-14 days.

Up your co2

You can try a hydrogen peroxide treatment if there is a really bad problem. It will damage your plants a little bit and you might get a small ammonia spike, but everything will recover. I'd use that as a last resort for a bad outbreak.

I get it and I thought it was a bit of fungus.

When you kill it, it turns pink. Hurrah!
