Hey Everyone,
As you may know I am doing an experiment concerning the nature of S.
purpurea (specifically whether or not it makes it's own digestive
enzymes or bacteria make the digestive enzymes). I am soliciting for
unopened pitchers to conduct this experiment. As you all probably know the
pitchers grow and inflate and fill with fluid several days before they
open. I would like donations of location pitchers that have grown and
filled with fluid but not opened. I am willing to pay for shipping. If
anyone interested would please contact me with their plant(s) location and
subspecies/variety that would be very helpful.
The plants need to be location plants (and as such I will be trying
to get as wide a geographical spread as possible not just from a few
sites). Pitchers from non-profit organizations, botanical gardens and
research institutions will certainly be accepted. I am specifically looking
for pitcher donations from:
Western Florida to Mississippi
North and South Carolina
Virginia
New Jersey
New England
Canada
The following subdivisions are the classifications these will go
under (Dr. Schnell gets credit for this):
S. purpurea subspecies (ssp.) purpurea,
S. purpurea ssp. purpurea forma heterophylla,
S. purpurea ssp. venosa variety (var.) venosa,
S. purpurea ssp. venosa var. montana,
S. purpurea ssp. venosa var. burkii (S. rosea),
S. purpurea ssp. venosa var. burkii forma luteola

Meadowview Research Station has already agreed to donate pitchers but
other locations are needed (since the median seed distribution for S.
purpurea is 5 cm (Aaron Ellison).
Packing will ideally be each pitcher sealed in a different plastic
zip-lock bag, properly identified (note: subdivisions will be checked
upon arrival but locations cannot be checked and so organizations rather
then individuals will be considered more trusted (although I am sure no
one would lie about a location).
At this time I am not sure whether the pitchers will be shipped to my
house or Harvard so I will just make a list at this time. Remember I
will pay for shipping

P.S. please respond to numerusnex@yahoo.com as it will be unlikely that I will respond to pms.
