Loves VFT's!
I was taking pics of bees and some birds today. This morning there were three birds in my yard and I'm wondering what kind they are. I'm in Central FL. They flew onto the telephone wires. I see them all the time, they're cute! One has something hanging from his foot

Also here's a green bee. I've never seen one before. Is it infact a bee or some sort of waspe or hornet? I've seen green hornets here, but they didn't look like this. What is it?

The bird looks like an Ibis. But I'm not positive.

The bee...I've seen those but I don't know that either. I'm not too smart today.

Many Halictid (sweat) bees are green. That almost certainly is one. They nest in the ground, don't really sting, and are beautiful.

i have heard the bees called Cookoo(sp?) wasps. they have these really cool stingers that they can move like a tail.

Yep, definitely an ibis. My folks are in Central FL and routinely get them wandering across the lawn.

we used to get those in our yard whenever we lived in West Palm Beach.

Alex - I think you might be right about that being a cuckoo wasp. I've never heard the name and looked them up and many have the same metallic look about them. They don't come up this far north and, since I learned the little entomology I know up in Maine, I just assumed that had been a Halictid bee. Both are beneficial things to have around.

So it is an Ibis, they're really neat. I would have never thought I'd see a bird like that standing on a wire, they look too big!
That metalic green Cuckoo waspe is nice, I love the color!
Thanks for I.D-ing my mysterious animals
