recent studies have shown the clouded leopard from Borneo and Sumatra to be genetically distinct from its mainland cousins, enough so to warrent being a new species.
Dang! What an amazing looking creature. If I recall correctly, in the topic about the show on Borneo, one of the scientists was actually trying to get footage of a clouded leopard. Unfortunately he failed to get the footage, but now I can understand why he wanted it so bad!
They're so amazingly lucky they ever got to take pictures. From what I hear these guys are notoriously elusive, almost more so than any other mammal on earth.
