Blah... giving a presentation in French class about my CPs tuesday...

Two significant problems:

1. I really can't speak French.
2. I am a singularly awful public speaker.

I'm bringing in three of my plants... my VFT, one of my ping's, and the nepenthes (ventricosa). I'm hoping they'll be too distracted by the really cool plants to notice my butchering of the French language :D Sadly my professor has "House"-like abilities in grammatical observation, and French has all these lovely subtleties in pronunciation that are completely lost in a Long Island accent... I'm doomed.

Anyway... back to teaching my gerbil about les feuilles poisseuse, les pichets et les pieges (sticky leaves, pitchers and traps) :)

Wish me luck!

Your gerbil?

Good luck! You'll need it!

hehehe he's a captive audience, he listens well ;)

I'm doing something similar for both spanish and latin, except the spanish one is for a competition

Smoke and mirrors. Smoke and mirrors.

xvart.

Not quite a captivated audience, but it'll do. :-D

I'm sure you'll do well! I used to always be really nervous about giving presentations and stuff. Not so bad now, but I did notice that back when it was a problem, if I was talking about CPs I could talk hours on end without problem. :p

GOOD LUCK!

Maybe one of our Canadian members can hekp you, like Mabudon or sszvein? I took French, way back when, with that same L.I accent.... oy vey! C'est domage!

my head teacher made me do a seminar for invited guests and governors about my plants. to make it worse, i also had to stay for drinks and socialising beforehand, and dinner afterwards. definitely not fun...

fortunately it was in english

i talk to my budgie. he starts to sing when he gets excited...

Made you? Lol. Didn't you get any credit or something?

Hey you never know, you might need a connection one day and be glad you socialized. Life is about who you know sometimes.

heheh actually it went astonishingly well... my professor was still talking about it today :D she was very pleased that i had looked up all the words for plant parts ("leaf", "stem"... "trap") and things like "pieger" (to trap) and "braconnier" poacher.

and yes, they all wanted to poke the flytrap... le sigh. but they all thought it was cool, and i found some other plant geeks in the class which made me happy :)

Glad you got through it. I still remember my 7th grade French class. We had this new girl, named Sylvie DeFosse and she was a French import. I mean, she already KNEW French. That was an unfair disadvantage! She shoulda been taking Spanish or German, or att least Pig Latin or something - but not FRENCH!

We had to memorize these phrases like, "Dis donc, ou est la bibliotheque?" and "Je voudrais to presenter Marie Leblanc" and "Comment vas tu?" Then there's Pepe LePew...
