Lol learn German and listen to German rap. The beats are way better, and they are actually amazing lyricists, instead of just yelling and swearing all the time (though I gotta admit, I love DMX haha).
German rap is so much better than its American counterpart. Jay-z, et al. are really good rappers, but Nico Suave and Dendemann beat all those guys in quality and talent, hands down.

I don't have a favorite genre or artist because, like others have mentioned, it varies with mood, phase of the moon or whatever. I think that no matter what my mood is, Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland and John Coltrane's A Love Supreme are two albums that stand out from all the rest. My favorite song of all time is probably Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, but I can't remember the last time I heard it. I generally prefer more dissonance, but that song has always struck me. Although the music I mentioned is from the 60s, some of the worst music of all time came out then too. A lot of great music has come out throughout my life, as it did before I was here and will continue to do long after I'm gone.

I don't really like music anymore; but, I would have to say that The Grateful Dead is my favorite band; especially tours and shows around 1977. I've got some great recordings of live shows but rarely listen to them these days... I mostly listen to country music now on the radio. Not honky tonk county, but the country music that makes you want to be a better man. There's a difference.

Best albums ever? REM's Automatic for the People, Dire Straights' Sultans of Swing, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, and Chicago's Greatest Hits (lol).
