Aren't your kids in high school? I suppose it would be the truth, and clearly it wasn't that loved of a pet if you took a picture of your dog eating its scalp.
I suppose this was really just a wild rabbit that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Cats do this too. When I was a kid I came home from school with my cat sitting proudly in front of a disembowled rabbit laying in the middle of the floor with a look of "tada!". He brought in many other things over the years, some living (fun!) most not... lol
My current cats do the same thing, bringing in birds, toads, chipmunks, cicaidas and whatever they can sneak in with overnight.
