The first meeting of the Ohio Carnivorous Plant Society is getting closer! We'll be getting together on Saturday, May 14th, 2011 from Noon to 3 PM at the Big Walnut Park Shelter House (5000 East Livingston Avenue) in Columbus, Ohio.

We'll hear a talk from Dr. Douglas Darnowski on prey preference in aquatic carnivorous plants, have a plant show, discuss the carnivorous plants of Ohio, and then have a field trip to Cranberry Bog on a floating island, which I've written about before on the ICPS forums.

Details can be viewed at our website: http://www.ohcps.org/meetings.htm

The following is our meeting flyer (larger, printable pdf can be found here):

I hope some of you can make it! I'll be sure to follow-up with a full report.

hmm.. that's only a few hour drive. Out of state hobbyists welcome?
Are there plants for sale at these meetings?

Everyone is welcome, of course :) I'm working on getting some vendors. We have at least one that will be selling CP and everyone else is welcome to bring plants to trade. You can bring your best ones and enter them into the plant show for $1 (prize is half the total).

I've got nothing worthy of entering into a contest.. BUT, I'll be sure to bring plenty of spending cash! :awesome:

i would love to go! definitely post if you are going to get some vendors added too

An update: We will have at least two people selling CP at the meeting. One of our members, who has a very nice collection, will be bringing some to sell. And Doug Darnowski will be bringing some triggerplants, Utricularia, and his book to sell.

Hope to see you there!
