Spectacular photos!

It certainly appears you had a terrific trek.

I see that you met Ed; I spent some time with him in Borneo last fall, as well.
It Seems like he is running all over the place!
He is a great guy!

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself and had a wonderful time.
I almost went— I really wish I had. It was between Borneo this summer
or the Tepuis.

Anywho', I get to live vicariously through your stunning photos.

Thanks for sharing! :D

WOW what a treat seeing those Utrics and orchids first hand!

The U. campbellina shots look wet and you said the moss was very shallow and the wood behind smooth. Does it rain once a day, several times a day, just a constant drizzle/dense fog?

Was it hard to breathe at the high elevation?

sigh talie....yes, hahaha sensor clean...easier said than done at high humidity, with dirt on your hands and hiking carrying stuff along the way....unfortunately i dont know what that fern is. i can try contacting a few peeps and they could chime in.

It rains multiple times a day---this area where campbelliana grows is at the base of the cliffs of Mt. Roraima, water pours off from the cliffs as well as the rain saturated clouds which frequently roll through the area.

Moar Pics, still in the cloud forest:

This particular clone of quelchii was found in the dead leaf liter axis of Brocchinia tatei. All other specimens of quelchii were growing lithophytically.

Now the Best, H. glabra. a little background---apparently, Brazil doesnt like the US so much, and ordered that all US Americans obtain visas, regardless of the time stayed. Stew, who managed the trip was unaware of this requirement till we got to the border....H. glabra on Mt. Roraima is only found on the Brazilian side of the mountain...so we had a decision to make: play safe, or go all in. We decided getting shot at was worth being one of the less-than-20-people-to-ever-photograph-H. glabra-in-the-wild. The fog provided great cover...and our mission was accomplished. Altogether, i illegally entered Brazil for about an hour and a half. :D
