Smile, it makes people nervous :)
So, I'm always on the lookout for new bands, so I thought I would make a thread where you can post any band which you really like, that you want to share with more people (or simply just a really good band anyway). All genres are welcome!
Sadly, Youtube is limited in songs it has, with only a few highlights of albums, which aren't always the best songs on it! So, without further ado, let's begin!
All of the following bands are English, as I thought you would be more likely to know the American ones. Also, there aren't many American bands that fit into my preferred genre, which is alternative... but it's the sort of genre that doesn't really travel far, so maybe I can find some more bands to suit my tastes!
So, in order of what comes first on my ipod albums list:

Friendly Fires - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK0H3jEwUYc }Debut album
(synthy and - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofRCldHb7X0 }
high pitchy) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OswTmc2bZYQ - new album

Bombay Bicycle Club - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QKj62RKBrM - debut album
(Folky(ish) ) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MV4B4Y6Cr28 - new album

Everything Everything - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUq7tbuH00E
High pitched indie - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6udfNIzRUX0
weird, but good

The Vaccines - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MV4B4Y6Cr28
(Punkish and - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU9hrd35Dsg
one of my
faves)

Mumford & Sons - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KkUeRPjc-Y
Folky, popular - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLJf9qJHR3E
over here, but
not the best IMO

The White Lies - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTh9IuSTOY0
Joy Division - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMJaSStk6w0
influenced- - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ0AFriC7ZM
oh so cheery - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW0yynlDmqQ - new album, not as good :(

Two Door Cinema Club - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJDCMth8poM
cheery (at last) irish - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLK4oaXUuLg
band - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wxu02vp_Vm0

Esben and The Witch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP0Nv_ivTaw
'Out there' band- Slightly gruesome video, just as a warning!
discordant slow paced
band.

The XX - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pib8eYDSFEI
chill-out, beautifully - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjUX2LESOpM
paired back
music

Please add your own! Sharing music is such a great thing!

love mumford & sons --the energy they put out is definitely something, which is why i hate it when the radio edits them because the whole vibe of the song falls apart.

white lies is pretty tight.

i'll add in a few of my own:

future of forestry: definitely one of the more progressive bands of this day an ages---want to listen to something different yet familiar, definitely worth checking out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9m12fv9ErY (2:27-3:12 is probably one of THE most epic instrumentals i've ever heard)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE_Dhw8g4_Y&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8o4NiyYj7Y&feature=related

hybrid: cinematic electronica + orchestra scores = epic win

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xptIEkCHTZ4&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_WZkkAo0NY&feature=related

Alright I'll be the weirdo and post the bands that I like here, one Japanese one Russian :)
Everything is fine on this thread. God-forbid, if someone likes Justin Beiber enough they can put it on here *shudders* :-))

Here's their facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/VictorianHalls

and another song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqHqQoWtPmQ

From what I heard in the sampling, their upcoming debut will have some of this, and some other songs that are a bit slower like Traitor. It's amazing how they can sound so different but so...VicHalls :p

========================================

I remembered another favorite band of mine and figured I'd put them up here, since it's likely no one knows of them, either (although for scale, Victorian Halls fills 23 of the 25 "most played" slots in my iTunes, the first two being filled by the Sharktopus theme song and my favorite sad song).

Allow me to introduce your ears to Kaizers Orchestra. They're a Norwegian dark, alt-pop...with a touch of oompah

I like their old stuff way better than their new stuff:

Kay, so I know these guys have been around for awhile, and I think their hayday was when I was in highschool...but I can't get enough of them lately:

<iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Qi7KDOAj4Xo?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And out of all their songs, I chose this video for a specific reason. Anyone that knows me will know why ;)

I stopped actively getting into new music in the mid-90's..you will find that as you reach the age of 25 to 30, all the "new music these kids today" are listening to begins to really suck! ;) (it doesnt matter what year you reach that age..1965, 1985, 2000, 2020..it will happen! ;)

I havent come across any bands I really like over the last 10 years, except for two:

Placebo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFEPttl4WD8&playnext=1&list=PLB3341CF26E5D73D1

Travis:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmhKXFkUQbQ&feature=fvst

I discovered both of them by listening to internet radio out of London, England..much more interesting than American radio.

also, more well known, but brilliant:

Radiohead:

The Smiths..a great comedy act. (Morissey was kidding? right?) ;)

but seriously, "how soon is now" is an awesome song..I had a thing for Goth girls back in the late 80's and early 90's, dated several of them..so I was well exposed to the Smiths.

Any Fru-heads here??
I really miss those guys..saw them live probably a dozen times..but not very well known outside of the North East, as far as I know:

(for the record, the "River Valley" video isnt actually by Moxy Fruvous..its by an art student who made his own video..ithey did very few "official" videos..2 or 3 only)

Anyone have a a favorite song of an entire decade?
I have one..
I was a teenager in the 80's, and I have one favorite song of the entire decade:

<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/W9ae2EZ18dU?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/W9ae2EZ18dU?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="349" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Kind of a personal theme song for the year I graduated from highschool, '87.

I got to see Crowded House live once..at a Peter Gabriel "Womad" show in 1992..
(which also featured Sinead O'Conner and James! loved it..)

Wow, lots of music!

And Scotty, I think he was dead serious ;) "sweetness, I was only joking when I said, by rights you should be bludgeoned in your bed". I laughed so much when someone thought they were actually serious. Never really thought of The Smiths as gothy though- it's just cordially depressing :)

On another note, got the album to Young the Giant recently, and love this song:

actually I do think he was serious! I never considered the smiths a "fake" band..
I think he was genuinely into his lyrics, he didnt consider his own songs a joke..but yeah, some of it is just so "out there" it almost seems like it must be an act..but I do think he was probably legit..

"and if a double-decker bus, hits the both of us, to die by your side, oh the pleasure the privilege is mine"

"girlfriend in a coma I know..I know..its seeeerious" :-))

some bands are genuine in their "darkness" - (Smiths, Cure)..other are SO obviously acts..fake, fabricated, designed only to seperate teenagers from their parents money: (Marilyn Manson.)
