Nepenthes ampullaria.... in felt!

  • #21
It's growing steadily now. I LOVE the new crochet hook. It is wonderfully ergonomic and pretty. The yarn is t bad either, with a nice feel, fun, light variations and gently varying thickness. The green is solid, with no varigation. I have started to turn the edge up; in another couple rows I'll start making the sides.

After this I'll really be after a real Lime Twist amp.

The reverse side has some really neat ridges. Too bad they'll vanish when I felt the project.

Got quite a bit of moving done. It's going slowly, due to box and helper shortages. I need a "catalyst" to keep me going during packing sessions.

Anyways.

I got a lot of work done on the amp. project bag, during breaks over the weekend. I am ready to switch to the green yarn and start on the peristome. Woo hoo! Lets go, "Lime Twist!"

Cute. Needs more substantial lyrics, but still cute. :) I, too, love the original 500.

Some more progress:

I am on strike from packing tonight.

So cool! Can't wait to see what it looks like!

Totally forgot I commented in this thread. Your model is still a cutie.

Squirt has a new home in Newark. I just got more update pics today, in fact. He likes to "hide" under the covers, giving his new dad a mild scare. He's happy, I can tell. :awesome:

Here are a couple more pictures. I have the peristome, lid and alas done. I'm adding a leaf-ish strap to carry it around with. I'll finish that easily during lunch and breaks tomorrow, and then I'll felt it. Yay!

It's all loosey goosey right now, you have to use some imagination to see what it should* look like after its shrunk.
*Felting is an art, not a science. Anything can happen, and I'm not experienced enough to KNOW what will happen when I do what I did and will do. All I know for sure is that 1) it will shrink and 2) it will loose all stitch texture. I took very careful notes this time, though, so I can replicate it.

You dare to knit the pitcher of the not-so-endangered Nepenthes ampullaria? Oh, what audacity do the members of this forum have.
Good job, though! I'd love to get a Nepenthes ampullaria plant, although your knitting wouldn't be a bad substitute!

I dare not knit the Nep. ampullaria. I do dare crochet the crafty carry-all. :p :awesome: It is, after all, my favorite Nepenthes species, and frequently my favorite CP.

It's going to be, hopefully, a project bag; something to carry a knitting/crocheting WIP around in without it getting dirty, messed up, lost or jumbled about in your purse.

Planter, if you want to see some real audacity, search for Nepenthes + rice + ketupat. And, yes, I've brought this savage dish to a potluck at a certain famous book-writer's potluck in his CA garden, to be enjoyed by all attending. Including the host. :mwahaha:

Okay, so you do not dare knit the not-so-endangered Nepenthes ampullaria. You DO dare to CROCHET the not-so-endangered Nepenthes ampullaria. Got it.
I guess now you won't have to worry about yarn bugs.

Tee hee hee! Yep. Actually, I chose crochet because I'll get a thicker wall when done, and it's a little easier for me to make shaped without having to worry about keeping the stitches on the needles. I love to knit, but I prefer to shape with the hook.

Did you look for that other thread? :D I dared EAT many not-so-rare, not-found-in-the-wild, hardly-endangered N. ventrata, and indeed fed them to the entire BACPS. Nom!

The bag is ready for the hot water wash. It's in there now, actually. Wish it luck!

Lacking cute, furry models, I went with what was in hand. Or rather, what the hand was on.

There are definitely a couple things that I want to do over. The peristome is one, though his one does have a certain cartoonish charm. The other is the bottom. I wanted a FLAT bottom, not a football. Still, this can make a fun carryall bag for someone. I'll put it up on Etsy or something later, to exchange it for the funds to get more yarn to try again. ;)

OMG it fluffed up perfectly! The frills and everything are spot on.
I love it KT... too cute.

  • #38
Haha oh wow, I liked the first one when I saw it but this new one is way too cool!

  • #39
Thanks, guys!

I'm still figuring out how to make the peristome a little more realistic, but like I said earlier, I kinda like the cartoonish look of this one. Keep an eye on Etsy in a month or so, once I settle in from the move. Lil needs more yarn $$.

Would it be possible to put a couple stripes of different colors in the peristome? May help to add more realism..
