Lance's Greenhouse mega thread

  • #41
The female flower is recovering from wilt and has been tied back up to one of the metal wire hangers after a few days of "fogger therapy"

Heres when I found it wilting

<a href="http://s1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/?action=view&current=DSC_0023-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/DSC_0023-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

And here it is before being tied up...looking much better

<a href="http://s1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/?action=view&current=DSC_0026-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd495/Lance_Plater/DSC_0026-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Not sure you're going to get much out of that. Personally I'd snip that stalk to give some strength back to the plant. Looks like it could use it..
And what's the white-ness that's all over everything? Rooting hormone?

Didn't see you responded...the stalk is close to dead now...the plant arrived not hardened...but I was too dumb to notice. The white stuff is access paper from the packaging. I have found a well hardened female flowering N. spathulata that will fit nicely in my UHL chamber to be pollinated with N. X predator and N. X briggisiana pollen.

More pics from the UHL chamber!

N. Burb X eddy came on X Mas looking like it got caught in a Texas heat wave after being sent from P VFT...luckily the leaves are getting bigger and its recovering fast

I've received plants from "PFT" that looked much like that. Its why I refuse to buy from them anymore; the odds of you getting a soft/sub-standard plant are too high for my liking. I have plants from them that are now 6 months old and only now starting to make decent new growth: far slower to acclimate than plants from any other supplier. (Even bare root plants!)

Yep, both the plants I got from them will need some recovery time. Ill keep that in mind next time I get Nepenthes ;)

Nice looking stuff!

Honestly I think we should be able to talk about other vendors especially in instances like this where they are known to have completely unacceptable business practices. If only we could have a vendor rating thread where we (the community) can openly discuss our experiences and keep all these nurseries up to some sort of standards so that poor beginners know what the best nurseries are to buy from and they can save their money.

Thanks! That sounds like a good idea, especially when theres a same Nepenthes species on multiple vendors.

I live in Santa Barbara county, about 2 hours north of LA. Most of the Nepenthes have come from Peter D. Amato's nursery up in San Francisco when I have visited in the summer.
