I just got my first Heliamphora (H. minor) and N. maxima 'tentana', and have good progress on some of my other plants as well, so thought I would make a picture thread.
Enjoy :)

Love your ceph. I really like how the pitcher is nice and dark, but the lid is still quite white. Very nice.

Great pics! I'm totally jealous of your h. minor given the condition of the one I received recently. Hopefully the replacement the vendor is sending will look as good as yours!

I just added a BUNCH of new photos of my collection on my flickr photostream. Check it out!! (See if this link works: http://www.flickr.com/photos/68248217@N04/ .Otherwise, just click on one of the orriginal posted links above and follow the photostream on the right side... You can tell I'm totally technologically deficient :glare:)

Does anyone care to explain simply why my photos won't show on TF, or how I can make them show up? I've tried unsuccessfully and then, in total despair for life, edited my posts to just include links.
Ok, so maybe I'm slightly exaggerating about the despair thing, but still...
Anyway, I'd appreciate any help. Otherwise, I'll find someone in my family to ask, or something... I'd really like to make it easier for people to just see the pics without going to another site.

Click on the little icon for "insert image" in the reply box. Go to your photostream and click on the pic you want to add. at this point, I always have to right click and choose a photosize. When that pic shows up, right click again and choose "save image location". That is the link you want to paste into the "insert image" dialogue box that opens up.

It's kind of a long way to do it, but it works. Maybe someone has a shorter method.

Hmmm... for some reason my computer doesn't give me the "save image location" option. Thanks for your suggestion though jbradt. This is going to be my photo expirimentation post while I try to work this out. Other suggestions people?

Ha ha!! I got it to work! I go to the "Share" tab, click the "Grab the HTML/BBCode" and copy THAT URL.
Thanks (even though I used a different way).
I'll be getting those pics on here soon.

No need to use "insert image" it will add redundant IMG tags, just copy code into main text window

The N. maxima "Tentena" looks very different from the one we're used to seeing. Good luck with the Heli.

Thanks :) I guess you've already seen a lot of these pics on facebook. I need to take more up to date pics on a few of my plants, and get pics of the rest of my plants too. It's always cool to trace your plant's growth through time.

As far as the N. maxima tentana goes, the actual description from the 'unnamed vendor' says, "N. maxima giant Tentena, Sulawesi.... Wild seed from clone 2, no guarantee seedlings will turn out with wavy leaves!" (I'll update that on my pic now), so maybe it's a little bit of a different form. No wavy leaves on mine, but maybe as it gets bigger. Either way, we'll see.

Yup, I've seen most of them there.

It's probably a different form then. Let's see, we already have 4 forms of N. maxima at Meadowview. If we can both get cuttings from our maximas we could bring that number up to 6! On another note, I've never seen a glabrata that red.

Just a quick question, but what is that bag thing under the Nepenthes Glabrata and Spectabilis*Aristolochioides hybrid used for?

Very nice plants. Are you growing them indoor? Nice H. minor!

Good question,

Those particular pictures are from this last spring, but I have since had to change my settup because my new appartment doesn't have windows with good lighting.
I have the pot set in a clear plastic cup with water below the pot line, and then a wick which extends from a hole in the pot to the bottom of the cup. This made it possible for me to be gone for up to a week at a time without needing to water the small pots, which would otherwise need a lot more attention.
The cup was surrounded with white paper to reflect light, keep the pot temperature down (since they were getting dirrect sun through the window), and discourage the growth of algae in the water. Under the white paper I put a layer of black plastic to absorb any light that might get through the paper and further dicourage growth of algae.
Currently now I have a similar settup , using nylon wicks to water several of my plants that sit on a grate which sits over a tray full of water (as seen in picture numbers 2, 5, and 12, among others). I use this for most of my Neps, my Cephalotus, and I plan to use it on my Heli as well. Wicks can occasionally fail though (don't know why), so you need to monitor the pot moisture for a little while to make sure it is working.
It's an interesting method, but it saves a lot of time and energy. Has anyone else done anything of the sort?

Very nice plants. Are you growing them indoors? Nice H. minor!

Thanks for the compliments :)
Most of the plants in these pics are currently grown indoors under T-12 light fixtures (though as you can see many were grown on my indoor windowsill this last spring, but I have since moved). The U. gibba and Sarracenia minor grew outdoors in full sun most of the season, though I also had them on the windowsill in early spring. I have a moderately sized outdoor collection of flyraps and Sarracenia not pictured here.

What form of N. maxima do you have Graham?

Does anyone elses N. sanguinea produce molasses colored nectar on the peristome? Mine always does. It might be a little hard to see, but you can see it on pic number 19 (just on the inner rim of the peristome). I have clearer pics of the nectar in some other photos that I could upload. The interesting thing is that all the other nectar on the pitcher and lid are clear, so I thinik it's an actual plant adaptation. I'm looking to do a research project on this with one of my professors, but just want a better idea of how frequent the occurence is. Maybe it's just this particular variety of N. sanguinea?

I'll make a seperate post for this subject as well.

Cheers

Sweet plants man! I'm really impressed by the N. glabrata. It makes me miss mine.

I love the plants, the nepenthes are awesome, but i really love the cephalotus, the coloration on the lid is just awesome. How long have you had the cephalotus? Is it pretty easy to grow inside, or did you have to provide any special accomidations for it?

I've had the Ceph since about his last March or so, and it arrived with immature traps. As you can see, it has grown A LOT since then. I've been surprised how easy it has been for me. As with most of my other plants (excuding the lowland Neps) I have it on an open grow rack with three T-12 lighting fixtures (six bulbs) about 7 or so inches above it. As I described to someone else in an earlier post on this thread, it is watered using wicks going from the bottom of the pot into a tray full of water, though I do occasionally top water it as well. I wanted to be extra sure not to have the roots too wet which would make them rot.
That's it! No terrarium, no provisions for humidity (I have an average of about 40% humidity in my house). It's in a nice tall and wide pot, which I think is helping it as well.
I'm glad you enjoyed the photos :)
