Local news/police telling people to look for signs of 'grow operations'

  • #41
Wants is the operative word. His crime legislation will never succeed and even if he passes it the local law enforcement know they have better things to do...

Ahhh, delightful! Nothing feeds paranoia like a jumbo helping of conspiracy theory ;-)

Like so many of you have stated, I would personally be more worried about a petty criminal trying to break in with the intention of ransacking what they believe is a very sophisticated marijuana grow operation. Than again, I do live in Oregon, which has essentially decriminalized marijuana. Our police don't care (I've been told this firsthand by an officer), unless there is some seriously heavy weight being pushed. The real scourge on society is the illicit drugs like meth and heroin, and the legal prescription drugs like prescription painkillers and barbiturates.

JB is right about the recent law passed in December. The government now has the authority to dub any citizen a "terrorist" and hold them indefinitely. I guess it applies to this in that there has been some specious correlation about drugs funding terrorism. Scary stuff, but I think all the Nazi analogies go a bit far.

I think that is what will gradually happen in the rest of the country, even if pot is still "illegal" everybody will gradually stop caring about it.

Also, chemtrails! :0o:

Mato I see a direct correlation with Germany. Call me a conspiracy theorist. Idc. I will say it again, those that don't know history shall be doomed to repeat it. And personally I hope I DON'T get to say I told you so. Although you see it on the walls already. You agreed with me on the terrorist legislation passed over the newyears. It gives them the authority to make folks diappear.

So many false flags, so many tails within tails. It makes my head spin. Yet we did have a hitler and spies and espionage so it really isn't that far into the world of fiction.

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out —
because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out —
because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out —
because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out —
because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me —
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Warren, you find the best things. :clap:

If it were me, I would call the cops, and have them check me out and put me on a whitelist. However, the cops here are mellow and my dad knows some, so getting raided "just because" isn't an issue. In your case, you probably should just listen to your gut. Even if your gut wasn't mumbling at you, I'd still say that "just because I can doesn't mean you should" because clearly, the cops there are a very different and less understanding sort.
In your case....I would be inclined to invite the neighbors over for a cookout. Have a "lets get to know each other party." Play games where you talk, and share about yourselves. And when it's your turn, you show them your greenhouse. On the one hand, you can gripe about "I shouldn't have to do this omgomgomg nazi germany", or you could look at it as an opportunity to share the hobby and perhaps interest others. I love sharing and educating people every chance I get, and if I felt threatened, I certainly would, cause it's far easier than unknown and dread.
Blocking out your windows *now* would just be extra shady. But you could. You don't even need real shades, just get fabric at walmart and thumbtack it over. That's what I did as soon as I got my room. But that's because I'm nocturnal and the morning light shining in can give me migraines. It's only a coincidence I grow in my bedroom as well, so it's not an issue for me. I have an agenda against open/see through windows, so even when I have grow rooms, they'll be blocked out anyway :lol:

Always have tp have a smart alic in the bunch.

I'm not against getting to know your neighbors by no means. Many might not want to get to know you. I can talk for hours on CPs and orchids enlightening people and fascinating some. It is still not going to stop the nosy person who doesn't live there and sees the lights to call in a tip. It is the general principal of the argument. You can do the "I have nothing to hide" argument all you want. Pretty soon you will be trampled on.

Wasn't being a smart alec. I understand your points, I see where you're coming from. What swords said particularly resonated with me.
However, I'm simply more passive. Rolling over is easy for me, and no skin off my back. I don't understand why one would give up a hobby over "maybes", and why this would happen instead of doing something as simple as having a party. I live in a residential area where random people don't drive by, but you have a point, maybe blacking out the windows would be a good idea to prevent that. After the party, cause I can't imagine a better way to tip off the neighbors in this time.

I don't know how likely my area is to do raids. The police chief was opposed to medical marijuana, but he left to work for the DEA (right before there might've been police layoffs...). I'd probably have a field day, though if an officer just asked if they could be let inside. I'd show them the plants in my room (the lights on timers clearly visible from the outside), and chat and such. The only reason I'd be apprehensive is because there are a few minor things I DO have to hide (doesn't everyone?) and I'd have to steer clear of those.
