Nice pics! How is that roridula kept alive? They require a special bug inhabitant to digest the prey and inject the nutrients into the plant..

soo many pictures! sensory overload! great stuff Cthulhu! thanks for sharing!

a little edit....
-i just saw swords post, and im inclined to agree. inermis make pure green pitchers...if there's any coloring to them, it is not molted, but suffused throughout the entire pitcher. i believe the darkest they turn is a light orange color.

-i also talked to a R. gorgonias grower about Roridula cultivation techniques....from his experience, he says the plant appreciates night time drops as well as staying on the drier side, not unlike Drosophyllum, but slightly wetter.

best of luck! and looking forward to seeing your progress!

The insects don't "inject nutrients into the plant". Roridula actually absorbs the liquid fecal waste of the Pameridea insects which feed on the bugs trapped by the plant. Liquified beta pellets seem to work fine for simulating this.

I was gonna say "where the hell are the neps!"

Those N. inermis seedlings look wrong for pure inermis I have one or two inermis seedlings I germinated they look nothing like that. I wonder what you have there - it's likely something much more rare than pure inermis for sure! :)

Possibly N. pyriformis (inermis x talangensis or vice versa) http://www.cpphotofinder.com/nepenthes-pyriformis-3366.html

  • #10
We'll find out soon enough. I got them from a pretty reliable source.

  • #11
Wild collected seed or even greenhouse grown can be a crapshoot of some pure and some not. Each pod as you know, can be pollinated by a different insect carrying who knows what pollen.

Anyway, if they turn out not to be pure inermis please keep me in mind if you decide to cull! :)

  • #12
I'll be trading off 8 of them in the spring. I'll keep you posted.

  • #13
whoa. How'd I miss this thread? Probably the title lacking a username.. I dunno.

Anyways.. interesting mix you're using on the burb x eddy. What is it?

  • #14
Just my standard Nepenthes mix. 1 part peat, 1 part perlite, 1 part LFS, 1 part coconut husk chunks, 1 part vermiculite. It's growing like a weed too. I'll take a new pic tomorrow, that one's 2 weeks old.

Wooo! yay for finally posting pics! :)

The hamiltonii look similar to what the slackii and hamiltonii you sent me are currently looking like.. slowly coming back around though... And look at all those capes.. you'll have a forest in no time. lol.
