Everything looks great.
What're you growing the adelae in? Media wise..

  • #22
Thanks :)
The D. Adelae are in a 50:50, or 60:40 peat: perlite mix. Something to that effect. I rarely measure it out exacly.

  • #23
I really enjoyed these. Nice to see N. distillitoria. Now I know what mine will look like as I got a young one with no pitchers. And love the sanguinea. I still don't have one. All the lowlanders are great.

  • #24
really nice collection,i too love that ventricosa and your dews look great

  • #25
That's an amazing looking ventricosa, I love it. The glabrata makes me envious, always. Great job growing

  • #26
Thanks all!
Funny thing is, the ventricosa doesn't have any other pitchers that show the red pitcher interior, so I don't know what gives...I hope it's not something I'll only see once!

  • #27
Wow nice pics, I like the multifida extrema root cuttings. Might try that if mine pulls through.

  • #28
Wow! You have an incredible collection. Love that forest of binata!

  • #29
Very nice! Everything looks reeeaaally happy!

Very nice! Everything looks reeeaaally happy!

Thanks:)
Everything is doing pretty well except for the Drosera platystigma... They're not very happy. Gotta figure out what's going on with them. I guess first course of action should be transplanting them in a taller pot. I'd love to hear suggestions from people on that though...

  • #31
Taller pot for the pygmies would help. I use plastic drinking cups with 4-5 holes poked in the bottom. N. spectabilis is looking nice.

  • #32
Great plants. I really like the ventricosa with the red interior.

A really nice collection. It's good to see someone growing N. khasiana, and doing it so well. How do you manage to keep enough humidity going for your plants, especially your vft's?

A really nice collection. It's good to see someone growing N. khasiana, and doing it so well. How do you manage to keep enough humidity going for your plants, especially your vft's?

Quick answer: I don't ;) I don't make any provisions for humidity except for my lowland Nepenthes which are growing in a terrarium, and my one Heliamphora. It is a very common misconception that all CP's need high humidity. I grow most of my plants on growing shelves which are open to the ambient air humidity, which in Utah is usually beween 30 (days) and 35-40% or so (nights) inside. I grow several Sarrs and flytraps outside in the same (or lower, in the summer) humidity and they grow very well. While admitedly humidity does play a role, its importance is minescule to having quality light in the right quantity, and plenty of clean water, which keeps them hydrated (as opposed to humidity keeping them hydrated).

Oh, and thanks for the nice comments :)

Here's a few more pics:

Sarracenia flowers: no real pitchers to speak of yet, except for one lone, small, S. alata pitcher. Cooler temps really hold their growth back in the spring here.

Overall cooler temps holding back the flytraps too. And they're a littel sunburned after first bringing them out, but they'll recover :)

New D. tracii acclimating. Leaf cuttings in the bag to the right. I had to take off a lot of the foliage because it was wilting from too much water stress.

And last but not least, new huge Nep. from local nursery. Was only labled as "Nepenthes 10" ". I cantacted the company of origin and all they said was that it's a ventricosa hybrid. If that's true, then the ventricosa is very diluted in the cross, with a lot of maxima parentage. My immediate thought was N. 'mixta', but looking at online photos that doesn't look like a match either. N. mixta and miranda have spotting INSIDE the pitcher, while my plant does not. Anyone have a better idea what it is?

I'd say you probably do have 'Miranda' as that mystery plant. Upper pitchers rarely get the coloration lowers do, and that includes major lack of spotting inside. Wonderful plants all around though!

  • #39
Hmmm... I remain unconvinced. All the pictures of N. 'miranda' upper pitchers I can find still have the spotting inside the pitchers; though, like you said, the general coloration is much less colorful. Not discounting it though

Case in point: The peristome also shows more striping. Mine has no striping at all.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/68248217@N04/7848461000/" title="IMG_1674[1] by richjam1986, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7112/7848461000_878deeaf80.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="IMG_1674[1]"></a>

I guess the lack of striping on the peristome and lack of spots inside the pitcher is consistent with ventricosa parentage.
