Well, I guess it's always the same animals and all, but meh. Here's pics--

I started out early enough in the morning that the snails were still out
DSC_0001.jpg

I wish this hadn't turned out off-focus but there are some truly fantastic (phantastic? :awesome:) succulents in people's yards here in fun diego
DSC_0002.jpg

and nice flowers too
DSC_0003.jpg

DSC_0005.jpg

DSC_0007.jpg

DSC_0011.jpg

DSC_0010.jpg

and my favourite coloured one
DSC_0012.jpg

Is this an iris? it's my favourite kind!
DSC_0013.jpg

and apparently I'm close to a really swanky rich neighborhood where people have nice lions guarding their abodes
DSC_0004.jpg

So going along this walk, I realize I hit the dead end at which there's the rickety wooden footbridge. Face and conquer your fears, eh?
DSC_0018.jpg

DSC_0023.jpg

Oh god was it awful :ohno: but I was rewarded with some wicked graffiti at the end:
DSC_0024.jpg

and some more on the ground
DSC_0025.jpg

DSC_0026.jpg

So I finally get into the park, and more awesome succulents of course:
DSC_0029.jpg

And of course I head to the conservatory. It wasn't opened yet because I think they start at 10am, but the pond out front is always nice:
DSC_0031.jpg

DSC_0032.jpg

couple more flowers on the way to the zoo because, well, I wouldn't be on this forum if I didn't like nice flowers
DSC_0042.jpg

DSC_0045.jpg

so I guess I got there early because I had to wait behind some rope til 9am with the crowd of early peeps but I caught a pic of this guy while waiting

Secretarybird! :) Lovely!
Those archerfish are awesome, did they spit at you? :p
I think the bird you meant was a Victoria Crowned Pigeon, still lots of pretty toucans/aracaris/toucanetts. :)

Thanks :) Nope, no spitting. The top of the water was turbulent now that you bring it up though :suspect:

And yes, that's it! I didn't see them.. I hope they're OK and just relocated. I looked for them in their usual tree but they were nowhere to be seen. And yes.. but somehow despite it being as early as the zoo opens, everything was still sleeping/hiding  Maybe I was too early.

Great thread. It's like going on a guided tour of the zoo! I really enjoyed all the pictures. I especially loved the pics of the hippos swimming underwater. The water in the hippo enclosure at the Honolulu zoo is usually kinda cloudy so you can only see them if they smash their faces up against the glass! :-D

Thanks :) Actually, I did it no justice. This was the luke-warmest tour you coulda gotten . If you're ever in San Diego, it'll take a good 8 hours to well and truly really go through everything. I just sped through in 3 hours and totally ignored things like the herp exhibit, all the big cats, etc.

Zuzana, nice effort in crossing that foot-bridge again -- so very far off the ground. My only complaint with your post was the marked lack of photos (heh, heh).

Holding back are you?

Roul rouls! I love those little things. Our's are going to have babies soon, if they can keep the eggs in their nest. I need to get back over there again. Sucks about the glare in the Guinea turaco photo. The big blue birds are called great blue turacos.

Why thank you, and I know - I should strive to fill 10 whole pages with photos

Not really, I just work around some of the same, or similar, birds. I'll have to post photos of them sometime soon.
