Nepenthes update: Wish I hadn't taken my macro lens for these because the all the nepenthes are looking really good in the shade house. But here a couple of my little ones for now.

DSC_0399_zps5953892f.jpg

This guy is putting out a nice new leaf since I recieved it. I was a bit worried because the leaf before it was stunted and started to dry up. But, it looks like it's liking my conditions and should be fine. I can't wait to see what the pitchers will look like :)

First pitcher in my care. I'm really excited because it's almost twice the size of the last pitcher. I love how quickly ventricosa grows!

Alright, I took out the regular lens today. Not really any pitchers to show because I mostly have babies, but every collection has to start somewhere:)

These first four are my newest purchases...

The unkown nepenthes that I've brought back to life. Its getting out of control! The good news is I moved it to a new location and it looks like its finally going to give me some pitchers so that I can maybe ID it.

Here's where I'm starting some cuttings. I love this setup! Its seems to be working so much better than what I was doing previously.

One of three trays of unkown nepenthes seeds given to me to try my hand at seed germination. I'm hoping to get enough seedllings to do an experiment on coffee fertilization. I also used different media in each tray to see which gave me the best germination.

Great update! Don't worry about your buying "problem", we all get it sooner or later. ;)

You have a very beautiful maxima. One of my favorite species.

Well, I'm glad I'm not alone hahaha I'm gong to need to start a paper route or something to keep up with the habit.

Thanks for the compliment on the maxima. This is its first pitcher to grow in my care, so I'm pretty happy about it.

Looks like its winter time!

This guy was so small when it arrived and didn't have much going on. Now its coloring up really nice and despite being one of the smallest, he has now gotten bigger than the gigantea. I think I'm in love

Love the purple margins! They just keep getting more pronounced as it grows.

The P. 1717 rosette is so cute! Is that the same species as your avatar pic?

  • #71
Yup, its the same exact one actually. The one on my avatar was when it was growing under more light. Right now the days are shorter so it's lost all its coloring, but hopefully come summer time it'll color up really nicely again :)
This one is actually my favorite ping, I'm hoping it'll make some babies so I reduce my chances of loosing it. So far I haven't been successful at any leaf cuttings (its sooo tiny!).

  • #72
Ah nice, I love the coloring in that pic. I didn't think that the days in Hawaii would make that much of a difference. D. capensis looks the same all year round lol.
Wow!! That is crazy tiny.

  • #73
Yeah, there's not a drastic change like in the continental US as far as hours of daylight, but there is a notible difference. On the windward side where I am, in the winter time its rainy and cloudy all the time. So the reduction in hours and lack of sun during those hours seems to make a big difference with some of my plants. I agree though about the capensis, mine look the same too :)

  • #74
Ohh yeah, kinda forgot how cloudy that side can get. Though central side can get pretty rainy too. At least you get plenty rain water :)

A little update. Most things have still been growing slowly due to it being winter time, however I have gotten a little bit of action lately in some plants...

One of my pings is flowering. Yay! Looks like it'll be a pretty one :)

The unknown Green Giant had finally put out a pitcher and more coming as well. He seems to like the shade-house and all the rain we've been getting lately. I love this little guys coloring and hairy wings! I can't wait to see what he looks like when it gets a more mature pitcher.

My very first nepenthes seedling to sprout! I hope the others take suit and do the same...
DSC_4544_zpsa0743304.jpg

Also my cuttings seem to be working for a change. Yipeee! This guy accidentally fell out of the pot and to my surprise, there's roots!

My first time lapsed video (as you can tell by the fact that I didn't know the view finder and camera didnt line up!)

Did you see the lizard?

  • #77
There's no sound...

  • #78
Yeah, the software that I used for it is extremely primitive and it doesn't allow for sound to be edited in. This one was just a trial run to get out all the kinks. Next time I should be able to get everything in the frame correctly and if it all looks good I'll take the time to edit it my really good video editing software (with music! ;) )

Checked on the unkown nepenthes seedlings and I have a total of 5 that have sprouted so far. :boogie:

N. kampotiana x (khasiana x alata) is a cool one. The one at Meadowview has pink pitchers. Not pinkish, but bubblegum pink. N. sib x Lady Pauline will be interesting.
