Apple Trees and Hard Apple Cider

I have this huge apple tree in my yard and I'm interested in making Hard Apple Cider with the apples. I'm watching you tube videos on it and there's a lot of different ways. Does anyone have first had experience with this and can you please point me in the right direction - Thanks

Just don't do what a couple of yahoos I knew at university did. They left a sealed plastic jug of cider sitting out at room temp to ferment in their bedroom. And ferment it did. The gasses built up and the jug exploded sending cider vinegar everywhere! Their dorm room was quite fragrant for about a week.

Whatever process you decide to use just make sure and use ale yeast or you'll end up with apple wine.
