Nice photos, but I don't see anything from the ICPS Conference. Perhaps we should rename this thread and you can post pictures from the Conference in another thread. I'm adding a DUW (Dialup Warning) to the thread title as it took 10-15 minutes for all the photos to cache on my system even with a fast connection

  • #22
I'm getting there NaN, patience friends patience ;) Also, pretty much no one has dial up anymore and even from a slow connection loading these photos only took about 3 minutes from a computer with a 2mbps connection.

People still use dial-up? Might be time to upgrade that along with your beeper.

Very cool photos, Mason. I particular like the "moss ball" you captured with the Nepenthes seedling growing out of it. Also tried to identify that Vireya on the first page, but no luck.

So its been a bit since I updated this. I figured I should at least finish out my trip in Borneo. So here are the last of my photos from my Bornean excursion. After the Maliau Basin we went to two different preserves for Orangutans and then Proboscis Monkeys but non of those photos really turned out the way I wanted so I'm skipping those for now. After that we flew to Mulu National Park where I attempted to climb the Pinnacles and Gunung Mulu and I was not able to make it to the plants unfortunately due to illness, so I never got to see N. faizaliana, N. muluensis, N. lowii, or N. tentaculata on those mountains.

More great shots ! Love the caves and the bugs ! I didn't realize there was so much lowland terrain in Mulu National Park. Very cool.

  • #26
Those were at three different locations within Mulu Park. I'm fairly certain the Red Flush Bical in cultivation comes from one of these sites.

  • #27
Thanks Mason for pointing me to this directly. Wow, some amazing stuff in there! I love so much of it I'm not even going to point out which... well, cause I can't. :)

  • #28
Awesome photos, Mason. Too bad about the sudden affliction, but I'm sure you'll get a chance to see the plants you missed in the future.

  • #29
Holy moly, I am not sure how I missed this thread. Easily the greatest contribution of photos of Borneo that I have seen in a very long time!

Looks like an absolutely amazing trip. Thank you so much for sharing.

Absolutely stunning, thanks for taking the time to share your photos, those bugs look out of this world too

Alrighty, it's time for the ICPS Conference photos! I only have a few photos from the conference itself. But I have a lot from the tours after the conference was over.

The first trip was to Mt. Bartlefrere where nearly all the D. schizandra in cultivation come from according to those that led the expedition.

The next day we began the trip up the Cape from Cairns to The Tip, the northernmost point of Australia.

Great to see such dense populations and such enormous plants !

We began our trip up the Cape in a huge 4 wheel drive bus. I'll admit I was very impressed that we never got stuck in that thing. Our first stop was a site confirmed to have some Utricularia and Drosera. We found I believe potentially two new species of Utricularia at the site. They may or may not be pictured here. Some Utrics were so small I couldn't tell if I was photographing the correct thing or not.

The next locality was an air field with tents and a few rooms for rent. Most people that stay there are truckers, pilots, and the crazy plant people on tours like us.

Great to see all these species in situ. Love the D.serpens, all of the species in that complex are terrific. Annuals like D.hartmeyerorum ?

  • #38
Nearly all of them were setting seed so they might behave that way but there were some really long plants like 2ft+. But i'm not sure if they behave as annuals or not.

Ditto! Insane pics of schizzies in-situ. :hail:

Did you have an opportunity to see the other sisters in the rainforest?

  • #40
The wild schizandra hardly even look carnivorous! Wow. Excellent pics.
