LACPS Huntington Botanical Garden Meet

thez_yo

instigator
Yesterday I made the trek up to LA from San Diego to attend their Annual Huntington Botanical Gardens meet. On the itinerary: scope out the members displays, sales and give-aways (and ditch a pile of cuttings :-P-:), go on the tour of the back greenhouses, then there was a talk from DJ on his travels through PNG and the very nice Drosera, Nepenthes and 'chids he saw. As per my M.O., enjoy the story through pics :-D

I got there close to opening time, so the tables weren't as populated yet... the usual fare. Some more showy neps, some pings and pygmy dews showed up too.

Ack! Cough! Sputter!

A 100% sales tax for two emu eggs. What is wrong with your politicians?

Sigh, the accursed double post strikes again.

DJ gave a nice talk with pics of various neps - N. maxima. So much N. maxima! And a couple other things, like D. ultramafica and N. ampullaria.

Then, my long drive back. I took the I15 this time instead of the 5 to see if there would be less shenanighans. Seems about the same though, 2.5hrs up and 3.5hrs back down. The 15 seems more like a desolate wasteland than the 5, being further from civilization.

Traffic everywhere you look.

Very nice - certainly a pictorial odyssey. I really like the paphs and phrags.
