Trip to Goat Marsh near Mt. St. Helens (Pics)

Yesterday four of us piled in a car and headed out of Portland up to Mount St. Helens to go see wild carnivores. We spotted Drosera rotundifolia and also Utricularia that we haven't figured out yet which species it is. The Drosera was growing on Sphagnum moss, we think Sphagnum squarrosum.

Very muddy with sparse grass and sphagnum hummocks colonized by huckleberries and occasional Drosera rotundifolia.

The first little one I found.

A cluster unusually close to the treeline at the edge of the marsh.

Beautiful landscapes. Seems like a great place to explore for a few hours.

Very nice pictures. I'll have to check out Goat Marsh next time I'm up that way. How did you first find out about that place?

Nice photos guys! Looks to be a beautiful place. 'Wish I could've been there but I appreciate you posting so I can see what I've missed.

It's quite a nice area. Not nearly as many sundews as I was hoping for but it was still nice to see them growing in the wild. I'm glad I thought to check the lake for Utrics since we weren't originally intending to.

Awesome stuff, mount St. Helen's is amazing!

Thanx for posting the photos! I am sorry I could not make it this time, hopefully the next trip. Amazing scenery and looks like you had decent weather. Awesome you found aquatic utrics there.

Something interesting you guys may not have noticed - the Utricularia are already forming turions in the middle of July. I thought that was rather strange. After talking to a few people and digging through pictures I'm pretty sure it's Utricularia minor, though I'm trying to get ahold of someone at the forest service who may know for sure.
