Chia Pet Pings? Chia Pet Orchids?

An idea just came to me after seeing used Chia Pet planters for sale on ebay . . . Wouldn't they be good for growing pings?

Terracotta (the sutff Chia Pet Planters are made of) sucks up water. If placed in a saucer filled with water (like this):

it should keep ping roots properly moist.

Also, this could probably work well with orchids that like to be extra wet, as they have been grown on old terracotta pipes:

Thoughts?

As long as pure water is used, should be very doable -- albeit somewhat tacky in appearance with things like that cow.

Tsk tsk DE! Stop displaying good taste.

I imagine Pings on a Chia Pet would look kinda like this:

So no cow DragonsEye? Hmmm . . . maybe you'd grow your Pings on a Scooby-Doo?
