Hi Everyone

If you are in the area, set aside the following date: Saturday, October 11, for The First Annual New England Carnivorous Plant Society Show!!! It will be at Roger Williams Park Greenhouse in Providence, Rhode Island. 11 am to 8pm, $3.00. And BE SURE TO STICK AROUND UNTIL IT GETS DARK, because...

It also happens to be opening weekend for the nationally acclaimed Haunted Pumpkin Trail at The Roger Williams Park Zoo. This is a 3 acre trail with over 5,000 professionally carved illuminated pumpkins. Check out http://www.rwpzoo.org/jackolantern/code/spectacular.html:

But getting back to OUR show:

We will have:
Plant raffles, including a drawing open to anyone who votes in the "Best Plant" nomination.
Carnivorous plants for sale, by both vendors and NECPS members who have donated plants. A great way to get some unusual things for you collections.
A feeding station, with regularly scheduled VFT feedings on VideoCamera.
A sneak-peak at Jim Miller's CP DVD project!!!
FREE seminars
If you live far away, we are trying to get a block of rooms at a local hotel.

Also:
Meet renowned Cephalotus grower Jeff Matteson, who's ceph photos and tips were just published in The Austarlian CP Newsletter.
Meet PFT moderator "Schloaty", and check out his Nepenthes including the prized baby Nepenthes aristochoides!
See some of John Phillips' amazing Nepenthes too - he'll have to rent a Uhaul just to get them all to the show.
Check out some of the biggest flytraps you have ever seen (Nathan, can you post a picture?

?)
Meet and pick the brain of tissue culture expert Ken Uhnak - this guy got a Doctorate working with Carnivorous plants!!!!!
Matt Opel, of The University of Connecticut, will bring his award winning, dragonfly catching, Roridula dentata and other amazing plants too. Rumor has it he's donating some VERY nice things to the NECPS sale table. Last spring I got an "Amorphophallus konjac" bulb from him that - I kid you not - was as big as a football! Right now, the plant is nearly 6 feet tall.....woe to the neighborhood next spring!
Kirk Martin will have on display his stunning award winning Sarracenia that he, "..doesn't do anything to..." Ya, right, Kirk.

There will be plenty of other members and plants. Everyone is welcome. We would love to meet you and answer any questions you may have. If you come and ask me nicely, I might just let you in on my Venus Flytrap cookie recipe.......

Oh, you're soooo gonna get it!

The NECPS webpage has more info on the show.  Everyone in the vicinity, please try to make it, because a good showing this first show will make it much easier to get support in the future.  There will be several vendors there - save on shipping and avoid travel shock for that rare CP you always wanted!

Oh yes, and anyone who doesn't come will miss out on the excellent posters Bill made (complete with beautiful illustrations) demonstrating the trapping mechanism of different CPs.

See you soon!

PS There's a poster you can download on the page to print out and post up around town, if you feel so inclined.

PPS Bill: photos coming soon, but those who are impatient can look through the gallery - there are photos gallore.

Ugh Rhode Island? Make it Albany or Watertown NY and I'll be there. But no go to RI!
