I've read everywhere that venus flytraps like a soil content of half peat moss and half sand. Is the sand absolutely neccessary? I have a VFT in 100% peat moss and it survived for a year and looks quite content. I also have a sundew in nothing but peat moss.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I think that the sand just adds a little aeration and drainage and isn't 100% necessary. If plain peat works for you then just stay with it. IMHO
