dormancy in tropical places

I've had bad feeling about dormancy, ever since I froze 2 vfts in the fridge last year.

I know that there's a dormancy thread out there, but what about dormancy without a refrigerator? Is there anyone out there in a tropical climate that knows a way to put temperate plants into dormancy sans refrigerator? I know that short photoperiod is also important in dormancy, so would putting the plants in my cold-at-night-room be enough? Any information is apprecieated.

P.S. The plants are: a few VFTs, a S leucophylla 'tarnock', and a S x Judith Hindle

I have a friend in Brazil that grows Sarracenia and VFT's. He says that the growth slows in the short day winter months, and that the plants reliably flower and set seed in the spring. All his plants remain healthy. I think the daylength is really the most critical factor: I have overwintered temperate Drosera species under a 11 hr photoperiod at room temperature. I'd say give it a try if you have plants to spare. I know this contradicts most established wisdom, but my friend has been frowing his plants in Brazil for 4 seasons now, and the sarraceniae rhizomes are bursting his pots.

i must say that is very interesting. once i get enough plants to spare (or not enough room in the fridge
