All right everybody, as you know I have made a cooler with the help of Rampuppy but I need something else to cool it down. ANY SUGGESTIONS OR IDEAS ARE WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!! Please give me some ideas I am fresh out of them. Nep.G.

Yeah, noah I have already read that. Thanks anyway. Any other ideas people? I would really appreciate it.

Your in luck NG...

Last night, as I was working my fingers to the nub in my 16 hour day. (Seems like what Phil and Jeff put in every day, to give you an idea of how busy they are!) Any how, I was surfing the web, looking for great prices for the Athlon XP 2 Ghz machine I hope to put together in a little while... just wanted good ideas and such...

and I ran across this site, http://www.plycon.com/koolgear.htm

ANy how... this is for guys like me that would like (but can't afford to0 trick the heck out of their computers, with such wonderful things as liquid CPU and Hard Drive Cooling systems.

I am not sure how well it would work in the CP arena of life... but I think if anyone is going to give it a shot... NG, you are the man for the job!

The only other idea I have, isgetting some ducting, like what your dryer has going between it and the wall, and then a powerful fan, and making a miniature swamp cooler for your tank, pulling the air in from outside, humidifying it in a water saturated layer of media, and then pumping the old out...

Or you could mount your tank on an aluminum plate, and then have that aluminum sunk into the foundation of your home... heat would transfer down into your foundation... but... again... getting a little excessive in my young age!

and just incase your wondering what I am thinking of doing with my computer when I start upgrading it... check this out... http://www.pcmods.com/details.asp?ProdID=357 Another exercise in excessive behavior.

Interesting Ram. Just for all of you N,.Rajah growers out there how do YOU cool your chamber, terrarium, etc.

DRY ICE

or fil the tank with ice cubes

i am fresh outta ideas. or use what you told me i could use, put the air pump in the freezer where it makes the ice cubes stick the pump in there and itll send out cold air into ur terrarium

I got an old cool air humidifier at Goodwill for &#365, the only problem is that it spits little tiny drops of water, so to increase the cooling effect I was going to run the outgoing air through a short pipe full of exelsor (long thin tangled wood fibers) , in hopes that the cooling effect of the evaporation will overcome the heating effect of the motor while keeping the humidity up (read swamp cooler). I haven't tried it yet but I am hopefull, and the whole thing should cost me less than &#3620 so if it does not work it is not too big a deal.

Where can I obtain Dry Ice? And does it last forever? Also what's the usual cost? Chris would a cool air humidifyer work well? How cold is the air thatcomes out?

i think if you touch dry ice with your hands you will get burned. so i you buy it make like a wire rack and put it ontop of it and have it hang into ur terrarium. you can get it at a gas station place. im not sure if trhey still sell it. it lasts for about a week or 2 in a cooler. maybe a week in ur terrarium. im not sure how much it usualy costs ill go look on google

found some stuff.
<a href="http://www.dryiceinfo.com

and" target="_blank">http://www.dryiceinfo.com

and</a> it is about this cold. -109.3°F or -78.5°C
maybe a bit TOO cold
tounge.gif

its about a doller per pound.
on that web site click where to buy dry ice and type in your area code number, the kind for telefone. like mine is 954 for florida. just type in urs.

goto www.google.com and type in dry ice and find soem more stuff if ur interested

and it dosnt melt. it Sublimates. that means it goes from a solid to a gas. i dotn think dry ice will work. it is too cold and the fumes may kill it

Pretty neat stuff. I may not try it as of the cautions. I think I need some more ideas please.

Hmmm... it's been a long time.. but I thought dry ice was CO2? perhaps its gasses would be beneficial...

but yeah, I think that is going to an extremem guys.

 • #15
Well it is CO2. But it is extremly cold! I thik I'll skip that I don't want it freezing in there! But, how do other N.Rajah growers cool it down? In a terrarium?

The only person I know who has successfully cooled his plants down in a high'tech fashion, uses one of those coleman protable coolers with a glass top instead of the normal one. He has the power running through a thermostat, with the thermometer in there with the plants... when they get warm, it kicks on...

 • #17
HEY RP~! that guy is on garden web. he asked how he could do it and he said he had THAT coleman 40 qt. cooler.

i read the thing post, How to cool a terrarium. and i think taht is the best idea. but where to geta thermometer

what about placing your terrarium in a cold room and heating it during daytime ?
That's what I do.
Durng winter nighttime temperature is about 15°C, during summer 20°C.
I tried an ultrasonic-fogger combined with a PC-fan (at lower voltage) and with this setup I can get 1-2 °C lower than room temperature.
I tried a peltier-element (the one in the cool-boxes) on the top of the terrarium without great succes. Maybe 2°C less.
Another possibilty I'm going to try is a electrical cool-box which can cool down water to about 5°C and than let this water circulate to the ultransonic fogger and get cold fog blowing through the terrarium by a small fan.
No experience yet.

With my conditions at the moment most highland plants do well, (hamata, veitchii, inermis, lowii,...) but the rajah is really slow and still very small.

A picture of it :

Cool Martin! I like the pic. I think I found a nice hit. I was looking through a magazine and found a minature evaporative cooler!!!!!! I also may try a cool mist humidifyer and I may try more ice at night. Thanks. Nep.G.
