If it is aphids, they tend to attack the developing leaves. Check around for any green/white spots on the leaves. If you see any, destroy them. Manual killing works best, I cleared an aphid infestation on my VFTS in 2 days using this method. If it is aphids, you will see their shed exoskeletons near the base of the plant, they look like white blobs with little thing legs stikcing out of them.
