It took me about four tries. After I read that it was "a basic understanding of math and a creative, open mind", it took two tries. Just had to forget everything I knew about math...

That's a cool puzzle! I tried every possible mathmatic equation/formula I could think of. Then I figured I was making it way too tough, and finally figured it out

I used this as a training tool (an icebreaker) with pharmaceutical sales reps. They were not at all amused. After an hour of continuous rolls and hints such as "the answer is always is zero or an even number" and "visualize what could be the roses and what could be the petals", still nothing. They hate me now--mission accomplished
