I know I have sent seed to someone in Milwaukee WI, but I can't remember who. Another option would be to email Dr. Barry Rice of the ICPS who often requests someone from the listserve in the area to respond if interested in helping. The ICPS is very big on promoting education regarding CP in general, and I am sure Barry would be delighted to make the appeal for you. Considering the rather poor ettiquette shown to newbies there in the past, this might be your best resource to meet your goal. If I were closer I would love to speak to the class. The truth is, I am a far better writer than I am a public speaker, and I am very shy. Believe it or not.
I have not considered the opportunities available by dealing directly with the school system, and your interest has sparked an interest on my part as well. I think the idea of a guest speaker and a take home pack of CP media and seed to grow would be a great thing. If I had a video camera I would offer to tape a presentation, write up a handout on the care requirements and history of the plant, and make up some grow packets. Sort of a CD CP Instructional, lol.
In the meantime, I hope you can find a speaker. Inspiring good plant stewards is a noble work in my estimation. Old guys like me aren't going to be here forever, and we need replacements. Thats why newbie growers are so very much needed. Growers come and go, but newbies are the ones who will keep the ball rolling long after the old school has graduated to the big bog in the sky.
