I was a huge fan of the 1984 original!
and I still love it when the song is played on the radio every December..
(Midge Ure was the first concert I ever went to!)
and my sister and I watched the ENTIRE Live aid concert on MTV in 1985!
I was 15..(yes I know the difference between Live aid and Band aid ;)
but this new version is getting terrible reviews already!
and its only been out a few hours..
I will turn on Virgin radio as soon as I get home tonight to listen to ther whole song.

for those of who might not remember:

"It is quite simply the biggest musical event in history. Those who weren’t lucky enough to get in on the action the first time around can soon experience all that is Live Aid in their very own homes. The extremely long awaited DVD release will be available for purchase on November 16th, much to the pleasure of many music fans around the world.

On July 13th, 1985 the live concert event was broadcast around the globe, took place on two continents, and dragged in a whopping 1.5 billion viewers. The event went on to raise over $70 million for the 11 million people starving on the continent of Africa. On hand to help out with Live Aid were some of the biggest names ever to be known in the world of music: Elton John, Madonna, Queen, Sting, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Neil Young, Bryan Adams, The Cars, and the list goes on and on.

Now nearly twenty years later, those who missed the broadcast, weren’t even born yet, or want to relieve the Bob Geldof organized phenomenon have their opportunity to witness Bono’s nice mullet once again. "

The new one is pretty boring

And anything with Dizzee Rascal on it gets my thumbs down. The original sounds very 80s now and it wasn't the best song to begin with. There seems to be little umph on this version. On the other hand, it will go to number one and will raise loads of money for charity which is the important thing. The government is also exempting the DVD and CD from Value Added Tax, which will prevent between £4-8 million being nicked!

Edit: I've just seen the comments on the BBC page, there are loads and everybody hates it

Scotty, Have you ever tasted spam? If so you may understand why so many people had to speak out.
I'll agree, Live aid was a terrific event, it was the first Reunion of Black Sabbath, which was wonderful. As good as the event was it still doesn't compare to the awful taste of spam.

I have to admit, I havet even looked at the spam thread!
I will have to check it out!

Scot

I'm considering getting it for the Phil Collins performances and the 80's camp value.

I thought Peter Gabriel performed at the first concert. Guess I was wrong. o_O

Its on the Music factory on TV now.
i think its O.K, but I prefer the original version much more.
And that rap bit by Dizzee Rascal is soooooo annoying!
