Tunasurprize (not casserole) and others that think we mods are the "grinches". We'll I suppose we can have one of these gaming threads 1 at a time....let me stress that again.... ONE AT A TIME So be happy we're letting you have your fun. Don't say we don't let things slide. If the topic becomes too large it will be trimmed and if the topic becomes dead ie: no one wants to continue it or wants to start a new game it will be deleted.

what is the problem with those threads in the first place?
why only one at at a time?
for what logical reason did the "create a story" thread deserve to be deleted?

thanks,
Scot

There are two problems with these threads. First, when a thread has 4 or 5 post a minute, it's almost impossible for us to monitor it. Second, the owner of the forums has to pay by the for for this site by it's size. So those threads take up space and the more of them you have the more space it eats up. We don't care if you have fun with them, just be respectful.

the members can always use the 'report this post' function if someone is saying abuse....

The make a story thread was never deleted.

It was the wish thread that was deleted. I should know, it was my baby you killed.

Exactly what Ozzy said Scotty. Posts that are a few seconds apart are ridiculous, unless of course it is a debate on something intelligent. I don't mind the threads a bit, but the posts need to be spaced out.

I was replying to the comment that the story thread was deleted when in fact it was not.  The wish thread was not brought up and is irrelevant to the comments about the story thread.

In light of the new rule that only one may exist.  The story thread was chosen to remain, so the others had to go.

EDIT: btw the other threads have simply been locked. So in fact the wish thread was not deleted either. They are all way down at the bottom now because of the large number of new posts in various other threads.

hmmm..
well ok, I agree with the bandwidth issue.
but IMO, you either have to accept those kinds of posts, or just have an outright ban on "off topic" threads alltogether and only allow discussions about CPs..
(which I wouldnt mind actually)
but if this forum wants to allow "anything goes" discussions on any topic, then I dont think you can impose rules like "must wait 5 minutes inbetween posts" or "only one thread at a time"..
we cant be expected to figure out when the last post was made in 10 different off-topic posts on 10 different topics..
if bandwidth is a real concern, then just limit the threads to CP topics only..
that would cut down the bandwidth usage by 95%!
or..allow topics on anything but then dont complain about the bandwidth use..
you cant really have it both ways..

Well since it is a private forum you technically can impose whatever rules you want. You may not have any members left but it can be done! The timeframe thing between posts is kinda silly too but everyone is entitled to an opinion. Some aspects of the situation affect even the mods differently. What is a bigger issue for me might be less for someone else. Personally I don't have a problem with general discussion. But my arguement all along is that these threads that pop up do not fit legitimate general topics. So yes you can distinguish and say no threads of that type but Discussions and Question/Answer threads are ok.

Scotty, its not the non CP discussion its the ridiculous gaming threads. You must not take well to them because I did not see a reply made by you in any of them.

As for a bragging about chewing one of us a new one, that'll get you a ban Mr.

I'll go out on a limb and state that virtually nobody outside of a moderator has given any thought to how much space a topic like Word Association, et al, will take up. I certainly didn't give it any thought. Now we are much more keenly aware. Perhaps before someone wants to initiate a topic akin to W.A., TPBM, Where Does everybody Stand... - we should consult a mod? Of course new people register all the time and that may not be practical, but it's a thought.

Aside from the space issue and general annoyance by some, I have found that the fun topics are a non-threatening way for newbies to integrate themselves into the forum. A lot of people don't know anything beyond the VFT that they just got for their birthday, or whatever. All computer savvy aside, reading about issues raised by the highly experienced folks can be intimidating. While a newbie just wants to keep their plant alive, they have absolutely no idea of the enormity of this hobby. There is no way they can contribute to discussions of identifying the various cultivars of D. spatulata, for instance, not knowing much more than they have a sundew. This is where the fun topics come in, while newbies slowly learn.

Additionally, the fun topics have been a great way for some people to meet others and cultivate friendships.

While I am a party pooper, I agree Jim that it can be a way for shy folks to come-around but I think the other issues outweigh that. Thats what lurkers are for, every forum has 'em. To shy to talk but they want to learn and chances are if you wait long enough or read ALL the topics all your questions will be answered.

In my experience, tongue lashing at mods is not a wise idea if you wish to stay around. I have also yet to see a anyone wanting a fight match wits to a mod and come out on top. I think the dumber ones are the ones who want to fight.

i think the one game at a time rule is not asking to much, after all, this isn't costing us anything. but then the question of how are new ones going to start? will there be a waiting list for people who have fun game ideas but can't post because one is still up and runnning, or will it be all chance?
