Don't worry, god's in control

Bumpersticker on a car that went past me this evening.

My first thought was that it's pretty clear God isn't. Then I wondered if maybe God is and we need to take the controls back ASAP.

lol, so much for free will.
I've never gotten that... they say god brings people together or god changes people, that god has me in his hands, etc... yet they talk about free will?

great way to feel as if u have legedimacy for everything u do because thats what god wants and to free u from the responsibility of your mistakes because thats what god wants

The only faith you need, is the belief in a higher being, the will to seek the path to riteousness, and a posotive loving nature. I can go for days on what I believe, and the sciense of it. Go ahead, ask me a question

!

we are our own gods.

Hell, if that's the case, we are in deep crap! Our own gods!? It's still laughable, Aprilh.
Anything like "Jesus puts his money in the Chase Manhattan Bank-----Jesus Saves!?!?!?!" Gimme a break!

If I were my own god, I'd bow to my own feet to worship. But I wouldn't be able to stand the stench!

Ok, you said you believe in A higher BEING. What is your scientific reason to believe in just one?

umm... what's PC?

Satanism (the church of satan... not cults) doesn't sacrifice anyone/thing, nor does it worship "satan" as in the evil being christians believe in.

I'm not sure what strain your looking at, but I have a VERY good friend of our family who ministered to someone who actually took place in the sacrifice of a human being.
Of course they don't worship the evil being of the Christians, what kinda idiot would worship some and at the same time call them the Father of Lies? Shew, that would scare me....

I would LOVE to quote what Zap said as it was VERY well stated, but I believe that would be a waste of space, and everyone's already read it. One thing that I would like to point out, is that the Koran is not the only "knockoff" of the original Bible. MANY religions have taken the original Bible and twisted to fit their beliefs. The problem with this, is that it causes the "new bible" to become VERY inconsistent, and any good student would be able to find the incosistancies. This poses a problem cause it pushes them away from any god, and thus causes them to close up their spirit to the real truth of Jesus Christ.

Another thing is that all these other religions are so bold in presenting their material, while Christians hole up inside the church content that they have saved themselves but are not following God's call to reach out and help others see the light. No wonder this country has fallen into such perils. People are falling away from the basic truths that our country was founded on, and are just digging a grave for a once-great nation. No wonder so many countries hate us so much; all we are looking out for is ourselves. And then our country goes into an uproar when someone does decide that they want our country to return to greatness by helping the rest of the world. Now, I'm getting into the political crap..... leaving now.

I saw mention of us being our own gods, and a few smart remarks about that. I'm not gonna give you a smart remark, but I'm gonna give you some food for thought. Why do you want to serve imperfection? Why do want to serve someone that doesn't have all the answers?

American Heritage® Dictionary of Idioms
politically correct

Also, PC or p.c. Showing an effort to make broad social and political changes to redress injustices caused by prejudice. It often involves changing or avoiding language that might offend anyone, especially with respect to gender, race, or ethnic background. For example, Editors of major papers have sent out numerous directives concerning politically correct language. This expression was born in the late 1900s, and excesses in trying to conform to its philosophy gave rise to humorous parodies.

That sounds an awfully lot like marxism, does it not?

American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language
marxism

The political and economic philosophy of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in which the concept of class struggle plays a central role in understanding society's allegedly inevitable development from bourgeois oppression under capitalism to a socialist and ultimately classless society

Both involve politics in the same way. Both involve abolishing social classes, and differences between individuals.

Another thing I would like to note, both ideas came about in the same era. Marxism became popular in the late 1800's while politcal correctness became popular right after that in the EARLY 1900's. This might be possible because those who followed that ideal knew that they could corrode the US from the outside so they introduced PC in order to cause it to fall apart from the inside.

I have to completely disagree with that statement. I've never been preached to from ANY other religion besides christianity! and not a single non-christian missionary has ever knocked on my door.

it was NOT founded on christianity, the bible, or anything else. I believe april can expand further?

Well, a very small part, yes... but it's mostly because the US percieved as being nosy and getting into things it shouldn't get into. Other countries would love the US to keep to itself... but what you said IS true because the US is also percieved as just doing things for it's own good... like going to iraq for oil, etc.

Because that person is you.
Ok, let me give you a little food for thought too:
What about you? Why would you want to serve a being that "created" parasites, hurricanes, terrible pathogenic diseases, terrible GENETIC diseases, etc... that punishes the babies for what the parents did, that gives you "free will" but you disobey him and you go to ETERNAL suffering? That doesn't sound like a just, merciful, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, perfect, being.
or do you disagree he created all the terrible things, etc?

not at all, being P.C. is just not offending anyone. Do you think being nice is marxism? do you WANT racism and prejudices?

AW,
It seems youre always on when one of these debates takes place LOL.

Well your very first sentence is why I wouldn't want to be my own god.... I don't want to worship myself, it makes me sound like I have SERIOUS pride issues.

Why do I believe in a God that would allow/create all that crap. Because of His mercy. He gave us the choice of death or life. Because it was our choice to sin in the first place, and He gave us a second chance. I read something the other day that could very easily apply to this. All of the above crap is just a natural process of a doomed earth, but God, in all of His mercy is holding back the FULL force of all those deseases and such. When we choose to continue to follow Him, He will continue to hold the earth back from crashing down on us. But when we have chosen to completly turn from Him; He will let the earth loose in a last attempt to get our attention so that we will return to Him.

Alrighty then, I'm gonna let someone else have turn at answering these questions.
