Fungus gnats in hydroculture.

Can fungus gnats live and reproduce in a hydroculture system?

probaably. as soon as you get some dead roots in the substrate they have something to feed on. you would be surprised how much moisture these lil buggers can take
 
but I thought that they mainly fed on fungus growing in the soil, And if there is no soil Its probably not prime habitat. Or so i suspect.
