I'VE GOT THE POWER!!! PICS INSIDE!!!!

Clint

Stay chooned in for more!
Hey guys! First I was growing my plants under 440 watts of VHO. I had to move many plants closer to the lights (within inches) by putting them on tall pots and tupperwate. Ugly....

Then I tried feebily to grow under 250 watts of HPS, the light was ugly as hell and made my plants flower well, but the growth was hideous and etoliated. That lasted about a month and I switched back to VHO.

I bought a 250 watt Ushio Metal Halide conversion bulb.. WOWIE WIE WOW! I've never been happier over spending 60 bucks!

These pics are half as bright as in real life. I couldn't figure out how to make the camera stop dimming things down. you get the idea. Just picture them twice as bright. It lights up my whole room!

Before.......

AFTER!

Seriously it hurts your eyes to go into my room

I could get a suntan!

Cool!

Did you say $60? That's a lot of moula!

I'd say it's worth double, now that I can see the green on my plants
smile.gif

$10 was shipping.

Now that I've got the sun, maybe I could make a natural terrarium with sarracenia in it and move 'em out in the winter. Something to think about....

OH! Now I can get some vft's reverse their seasons and have them in the winter! haha!

And D. filiformis! OMG! I'm tickled pink!

Way to go Clint. Different lights give different results that is for sure. Some folks use one HPS and one metal halide for the best of both worlds since they give off different spectrum wave lengths.

I'm so happy dude! Now that i've got a renewed interest i'm gonna clean it up and buy more plants!

sorry about the crap on the wall.... That was when I put sticky stuff on a heater readout/dial thingie and stuck it on the wall. Who know the sticky foam crap would stick? Lol, redundant...

It's still 5200K. That's still got quite a bit of red in it, right? Here is a place online I found the specs at.

Ushio specs

Does that spectrum look good?

20,000 initial lumens!!!!!!!

wow...that looks amazing. But check this one out...the lamp which I am using has AMAZING SPECS. REALLY AMAZING. 6500 K, 91 CRI. Really good white light. looks kinda like that.

If u are good with electronics...I would suggest making a ballast that can take 2 or more of these bulbs. if anyone knows i would love to know how to make my own 4 bulb lamp.

bulb itself:

pretty cheap. I would love to get 4 and setthem up in a custom setup....but i have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA how.

Do you mean a fixture? Making a ballast is an extremely dangerous endeavor that really shouldn't be undertaken by anyone but a well-trained professional. It would be much safer just to buy multiple fixtures, or look for a fixture that fits multiple bulbs. And wouldn't T5s be cheaper in the long run?

You think that is bad multiply by 4 and that is ny sunroom set up. I literally have to wear sunglasses working in there.

I used to use 440 watts of Very High Output flourescent. It wasn't intense enough.

You could look on ebay for PC fixtures. I believe theres a 20 inch one thats like atleast 109 watts.

Very nice!
biggthumpup.gif

How big is the tank? Also, what kind of plant is in the large round pot (that seems to be a bit tilted) on the upper left corner of the tank ?

It's a 75 gallon, and those are baby D. adelae with a few baby giants mixed in.

Hope they don't burn

thanks for the kind compliments, guys!

You're D. adalea[Edit: Spelling is D. adelae, you transposed "a's for e's and vice versa".] will burn a little bit but will hopefully come back with some wonderful color! I got mine to get RED leaves.!

the problem is right now I have a small 20 inch aquarium. there aren't good tube lights at thaat size with like 6500 K and good CRI.

This sunlight desklamp seems to do amazing for my venus fly traps. if I can just get another of these bulbs setup somehow ...then I know that the plant traps will become blood red.

I think light shopping is the hardest part of having CP's . everything else is easy.

Oh but there are fantastic fluorescent lights that size! They are just expensive. I think you are worrying too much with CRI. To me, anything above 80 is good enough.

If you have the cash, look here.

If you really want to save cash, go to AHsupply.com

really useful links there JLP. Thanks soo much. its expensive....but seems to include everything one can need for a CP terrarium. I guess that 56 watt fixture with one tube is what I will be considering when I make a new terrarium next summer.
biggrin.gif

Are there anything which are cheaper still. Lol! yeah....I want to try and save as much money as i can without compromising the thriving plants. My present terrarium is a survival and growth experiment. The next has to be a habitat representation.

April?

the odyssea fixtures are cheaper but not quality. I think i got mine (before I read the bad reviews!) for 50-60 bucks or so. 24", 65 watts.

I'd save up the money and get the most watts you can afford. Also, PC lights are more intense by nature. 65 watts of PC is more powerful than 65 watts of NO. you will also need to replace the 50/50 bulb if one comes with it.

lol! sorry......I meant to write Apilll ...but lol came out april,
tounge.gif

I am sorry... u have to explain what PC and NO is. Yeah! I like the AHsupply website. They seem to have a good list of fixtures and lights. Once I do make a new setup next summer...I guess I will start from there. but I can't help but ask.....is there a way to get those kind of lights from a regular hardware store?? because shipping is such a $ and a issue

NO is what you are using now. Normal output.

PC is powercompact. It's a tube that's been folded in half.
