I would believe it. I don't think he would lie. I have a lowlander, insignis x merrilliana... It looks EXACTLY like maxima. :p

'tis true. It's identical.

  • #62
if i made a complex hybrid n it came out like a maxima id be pissed!

  • #63
I dunno, maybe the guy just got the tags mixed up. I still couldn't believe the size of those pitchers though! Never saw huge pitchers like that

Got myself in izumiae. Been wanting one of these for some time. Hope that the pitchers darken but overall, im really happy with it. Will get more pics when the pitcher opens :)

that space will be overflowing in no time..
plants look good.

Very nice man. Can't wait to see what that izumeae can do.

D, you will love your N. izumiae! Those pitchers will darken to almost black as they age, with a glossy BLACK peristome. It is a wonderful species.
That doesn't surprise me about the hybrid turning out like a maxima; as I mentioned to you recently, many crosses completely lose the visual traits of one or more parents when species like maxima are involved. I have a plant of N. Enigma, which is N. (belii X sibuyanensis) X N. inermis, and there is not a hint of either belii or inermis in it! It just looks like a stretched, kinda goofy sibuyanensis. Go figure.

@Mass: I will definetly be upgrading to a bigger tank soon. Next purchases will be for the plants health, not more plants.

@Heli: Thanks, can't wait for that pitcher to open :)

@Whim: I already love it :awesome: One of the reasons I got this plant was because the pitchers got so dark and the peristome is incredible. I have heard that this species grows really slowly like lowii. Does your izumiae grow slowly?
I remember that hybrid now. (Insignis x Thorelii) x (Macrophylla x Lowii)

@Whim:I have heard that this species grows really slowly like lowii. Does your izumiae grow slowly?

Yes, it is quite a slow grower, almost as slow as lowii, in my experience. Although both of mine are still small (juvenile) plants; perhaps it is faster once it hits adolescence, as many species do.

@Whim: Slow is good I guess because they wont outgrow my tiny space :)

N. Tentaculata that I purchased about 3 and half months ago. It has finally settled in and adapted and is finally doing something! Just opened a new leaf and is now producing a pitcher or two. Its also produced 3 basals O_O

I put it on the side because I the roots were really long and they grew sideways, not down. I had to angle the cobra so that the stolons would fit.
