My indoor greenhouse and desk setup

Hey all, as I expected my collection has grown out of the tupperware container that it started in and has expanded to a mini 4 tier greenhouse thats for lowlanders and my desk has turned into a highland jungle. Roxorboxor inspired me to keep highlanders on a desk since he's from a place close to the area I live in now, and seems to keep nice highlanders out in the open. I hope to move some of the more hearty specimens outside for our zone 11 spring and summer :) Here are a few shots of the desk setup: I borrowed a camera to take the in focus ones (all I have is a gopro) and as soon as it left my house I got a N. Riddler in the mail so I'll post pictures tomorrow.

I'll put up pictures of the lowland plants and my sarrs/dews later or tomorrow. Also I'm going to the Huntington Gardens in Pasadena which has some spectacular Neps and such so I'll post pictures of that tomorrow if anyones actually reading this lol.

N. Gentle has taken a while to get used to the swing of things round my neck of the woods but finally grew a new leaf. It's pretty small but it's a start!

I got this D. Spatulata but it looks like none I've ever seen. Or is this just a clump of seedlings that was sold to me as "a 2-3 year old plant"? lol. This is tiny by the way. its smaller than a 3 inch pot..

The Ampullaria that could.. I wan't this guy to grow so bad!! Finally getting action from the growth point after all but one of the tiny leaves died.

Fantastic collection! It's amazing that it's all on a windowsill! Thanks for sharing :)

  • #11
I love your nepenthes! I recently got a sanguinea too, such a cool Nep.

  • #12
How come the dews....have no dew?

  • #13
They dew (lol?). The alicea didn't have as much as usual when I took that picture because I repotted/ moved him and he wasn't too happy about that. The other ones are happy and sticky though. Also I'm not much of a photographer haha, I'll put of better pictures of the dews/sarrs tonight if I have time.

lovely collection! I have the same grow rack and I don't know how I ever functioned without it. Great looking plants and welcome to TF!

Update! Hey Shortbus? Did you find that the zippers on your tent were low quality. The zipper on the left side broke and now one of the flaps is open until I can get it fixed, thus lowering the humidity significantly. Anyways. I cleared out my closet and put mylar on the walls. I then hung a two bulb 4' t12 and a little compact fluorescent for a more white light to contrast the redder bulbs of the t12. I plan on adding more lights soon. Any input would be much appreciated. I also built an all glass terrarium for my amps and adelae so they can have a much more humid environment. I want it to look like this eventually: Here are some photos:
IMG_1329_zpsce37eb45.jpg

The front panel slides off for access. Theres also a 1" gap in the top on the back thats covered in mesh with a little bulkhead/valve for tubing if it needs to be inserted. The glass on the front fits flush but is out of place here.

Now for the tray thats at room temperature for my highlanders. I leave the window open at night and they seem to like the cool ocean breeze at night.
Got an order from Tony today. LOVING the new additions. Here's N. Ramispina

Lowii x Muluensis I've never seen such small pitchers look so mature!! In love with this plant! I have him and the ramispina bagged up for the time being. I'm afraid it won't give the proper drop in night temps though.. Anyone have input?

Here are a few more shots of tillandsias from my "tree" I have a bunch more if anyone's interested in seeing them too:

IMG_1339_zpsfa4eebaf.jpg

My first pings given to me in a very generous trade. They don't look too hot because they got smushed en rout to my place but they're all putting out really nice new growth quite vigorously! Flowering too!
IMG_1398_zps09a9bc74.jpg

D. Spatulata clump eating some fish food. I bought this as one plant but it was really just a clump of at least a hundred babies. I've separated a bunch of them so far so I should have tons of little ones in a bit for trade.
IMG_1399_zpse6f3a74f.jpg

Last but not least for outside the grow tent I have my D. capillaris kickin' it happily in a salt shaker. The lid is perfect for humidity retention with all its tiny holes
IMG_1356_zps05154d5e.jpg

He's about to flower too:

N. Albomarginata "Cameroon highlans"
IMG_1369_zpsf4676ae6.jpg

IMG_1415_zps774b5cca.jpg

And this pretty big S. Pupurea coming out of dormancy. It's just about to put out a flower and then hopefully a bunch of new growth. It's my only CP thats outdoors right now but I plan to move a bunch of the dews and some Neps soon.

Hey EtW. Sorry for the delay in response. Been a bit busy lately. In response to the zipper query: yes. I think the whole tent/rack is low quality, but for the 17$ I paid for it I have definitly got my money's worth. Fortunatly I havn't broke a zipper yet, but I try and be real carefull doing anything with it. I think I have mine at it's weight capacity as some of the plastic supports are bowing. I've been thinking about picking up a back-up and leaving it in the box in the closet just in case of a mechanical failure. Great pics by the way! Love that blue tilly flower for sure.

Moved some things around and converted my whole closet to a highland/ sundew setup. Except for the ultra lowland terrarium.

N. Riddler = N. spathulata x (veitchii x (maxima x veitchii)) I think it has some sort of small fungal infection. Should this be quarantined??

And lastly the first nepenthes I ever ordered and the only one that has never settled in :( This is the first new leaf it's put out. I don't understand what "deadflytrap" does to their plants.. It seems everyone has a terrible experience with them. It's a wonder anyone buys their products. Really though its ridiculous how terrible the customer service is and how the plants are kept....
