My swamp/evaporative cooler

Hi all I finally finished my swamp cooler for my greenhouse. It is all up and running well. The only trouble I ran into was getting the water to throughly wet the pads...but that was fixed with more and larger sized holes in the distribution tubing. Here is a pictorial tour of the process.

Here is the original pad, it had to be cut to fit so my father assisted me with the Sawzall!

Sawed pads...now we can get down to construction!

The completed system, the gutters we had and are simply drilled to the greenhouse studs the cooler outlet is screened to catch any debris the pads expell and this further protects our pump...even though the pump also has a screen on it.

Here is the pad pump...it's actually a special pump designed for Swamp coolers...I don't think you can see it but on the lid of it there is printed Evaporative/Swamp cooler pump 7500 cfm at 120 volts.

The whole kit and kaboodle cost us around 60 dollars total. A whole lot cheaper and much more better than the small prebuilt ones that are outrageously priced in upwards of $300!!!

Very creative handy work. Hope it does your plants well.

So is there a vent on the other side of the pad?

Khai, yep there sure is. I tested it out last night after the electrician hooked up my thermostat and boy does it work! I can't wait to finish off the vent in the back today....then truly the greenhouse is finished with all the necessary equipment.

OK thats great! for a second you had me worried there

I couldnt tell, from the pictures it looked almost as if it was free standing in the greenhouse and expected run passively.

I hinged a section of pressure treated plywood to the back o fthe vent hole and I can open and close it fomr inside the greenhouse. So far the system has been operating since 10AM EST and continues to run and shut off as the temp rises and falls.

Very pleased with the operation of this device.

Good Job! I hope it continues to run well for you.
