I found the sow bug dead on the sidewalk as I came home and decided it was time to break out the serious equipment and play. The results were way better than expected. The eyes of this critter are way cool, and I had no idea they were covered in tiny spines.

I have a lot to learn with this technique...and figuring out how to shoot living critters will be a challenge. Its going to be fun!

CO2 is often used to stun small critters for macro photography.
 
at the office I just put them into the refrigerator for a few mins to slow them down. Helps significantly....
