During the last swarm, my brother and I would pick them up by their wings and fling them at each other.

OMG! they are gonna eat your foot! :p

So cool! How long do the adults live?

They tickle

@ECooper: Not long. I read about 3 weeks, sometimes four if they're lucky. The emergence lasts for about 2 months.

Wanted to show the molting stage that I've always found fascinating. From last night:

Freshly molted.

They're just now starting to die off here. I'm using the wings of dead ones for an art project.

It's been pretty wonky weather-wise here so I assume that's why they're still coming up. There are a bunch of bodies all over the, place though.

Would love to see what you create with the wings.

Could I ask for a couple dead cicadas, and maybe a shed or two? We don't get the 17 year guys here, just these little tan ones. I'd like to add 17 year to the collection.

You guys from SI are so lucky. I've never seen them in Queens. Just the regular green ones and even then, their population has been waning over the years.

SI has its pro's and its cons :)

I'm going to sound like a ghoul here, but it's really all I can focus on with so many bugs:

Have any of them been eaten?

The wild life is definitely having it's fill. Lots of dismembered bodies.

Some people have been cooking them. There was this article from the local paper a little while ago and this one with a video from last week. I wouldn't mind trying one fried up.
