Springtails! (I think)

Saw these guys shortly after it rained today. They were immediately noticeable because there were literally thousands of them swarming over the surface of my container-garden soil. Never actually seen them in person before, and definitely not in these kinds of numbers. Wonder if they retreat to the surface to avoid being drowned?

They're springtails...and perfectly harmless, lol. In fact, it's a good sign. Means there's lots of decomposing matter in the soil (these are veggies / herbs I'm talking about)
